State talent puts on show in NFL

What a weekend it was to watch some of the best high school talent from the state of Louisiana compete in the NFL.

Destrehan’s football season came to an end Saturday night with a 23-7 loss to Acadiana in the Class 5A state championship game. While the season didn’t end the way the Wildcats wanted it to, Destrehan head coach Stephen Robicheaux was extremely proud of his squad.

The Destrehan Wildcats fell 23-7 to the Acadiana Rams Friday (Dec. 13) in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s Class 5A football championship at the Mercedez-Benz Superdome.

Destrehan High School senior baseball players presented a check to Alexis Keller, whose mother, former Destrehan volleyball coach Denise Keller, is battling cancer.

The undefeated Destrehan Wildcats will try for their third state championship in seven years when they face off against Acadiana in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Saturday.

The Destrehan Wildcats stormed out to a 21-3 lead over West Monroe - and held off a second half rally by the Rebels - to punch their ticket to the Class 5A state championship game with a 27-22 win on Friday.

Hahnville’s football season ended last Friday with a 24-12 loss to Destrehan in the Class 5A quarterfinals, but preparation for next year began the following Monday, according to Tiger head coach Nick Saltaformaggio.
