State Sen. Bret Allain, R-Franklin, wants lawmakers to pass a constitutional amendment that would force local governments and political subdivisions to adhere to new guidelines for tax elections. The coming debate could be a barnburner, pitting the business lobby against school boards, parish councils, police juries, mayors and other local entities.

•Ellis Jones, 24, of 1926 Dumaine St. in New Orleans, was arrested on March 22, and charged with second offense possession of synthetic marijuana, vehicle requiring head lights, false certificate, no insurance, driver’s license suspended and resisting arrest by refusing to provide identification.

Nearly five months after 23-year-old Ramal Ellis was found shot to death behind the church where he volunteered his time, officials with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office say suspects have been identified in connection with the murder, though any arrests will have to wait until the evidence is fully processed.
