Red Cross prep meetings

American Red Cross representatives will visit the St. Charles Parish Library to share how to be prepared in case of a hurricane or any other emergency. Presenters will discuss local hazards, how to make an emergency “go” kit and evacuation plan, and how to prepare for the unexpected by being informed. Presentations will be held at the following locations: East Regional Library, 160 W. Campus Dr. in Destrehan - Aug. 15 at 3 p.m.; West Regional Library, 105 Lakewood Dr. in Luling - Aug. 15 at 6:30 p.m., and St. Rose Branch, 90 East Club Dr. - Aug. 28 at 6 p.m. All library events are open to the public and free of charge. Nutcracker auditions

The River Region Ballet will hold Nutcracker auditions on Aug. 26 at the River Region Performing Arts & Cultural Center 15146 River Road, Norco. The following schedule for auditions is: 9:30 - 10 a.m. - boys 5-11 years old 10 - 10:30 a.m. - boys/teens 12 and older; 10:30 - 11 a.m. - men/women theatrical roles; 11 - 12 p.m. - girls 5 - 8 years old; 12:15 - 1:45 p.m. - girls 9 - 12 years old, and 2 - 4 p.m. - dancers 13 and older. Cooking for a Cause

Cooking for a Cause, Gradoux on the Bayou, will be held 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 19 at West Bank Bridge Park in Luling. The fundraiser will benefit Rebecca Tassara and Ann Martinez by Dat Dads Club. It will be a Pastalaya cook-off with public judging. There will be a $10 entry, for aduits, kids 7-12 is $5 and 6, and under are free. Snowballs, daiquiris and beer will be sold.
