Parish athletes place at state track meet By Eric LeBlanc Although no local athletes won any event at the 5A state championships held last week in Baton Rouge, several placed. The Destrehan girls had the higest showing with a 16th place finish followed by the Hahnville girls in 17th. The Lady Cats totaled 11 points while the Lady Tigers put up 10. The Destrehan boys also finished 17th on the boys side with 12 points while the Hahnville boys took 37th with one point. Leading the Destrehan boys was Jai Eugene who took second in the 100 meters with a time of 10.7 seconds and fourth in the 200 meters with a time of 21.92. Shunta Isaac of Hahnville and Erica Howard of Destrehan each brought home a bronze with third place finishes in the high jump and the 100 meter hurdles respectively. Isaac placed with a height of 5 feet, two inches while Howard recorded a time of 14.83. Howard also placed sixth in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 49.34. Two local athletes placed in the 400 meters. Destrehan’s Shaqueida Wells placed fourth with a time of 59.85 while Hahnville’s Danielle Douglas followed her in fifth with a time of 1:01.67. The Hahnville boys’ points came in a fourth place finish in the 400 meter relay. The team posted a time of 42.96.
