Tigers win state golf championship By Eric LeBlanc It all rested on one putt. And although Mandeville golfer Matt Hungerman had secured the individual state championship, his missed putt on the 18th hole Tuesday at the State Division I Golf Championships gave the Hahnville Tigers their first ever state title. The Tigers celebrated a one-stroke team victory at Beaver Creek Golf Course on Tuesday with all five golfers contributing. Senior Dustin Petit led the team with a score of 146, good enough for a seventh-place overall finish. Dayton Bordelon and Seth Dufrene followed Petit, each scoring a 150. Andrew Noto was four strokes behind them at 154 while Derek Bonvillain finished at 157. Petit was a model of consistency as he shot a 73 on Monday and Tuesday. Dufrene had a 74 on Monday and a 76 on Tuesday while Bordelon was the opposite. Noto also shot a 74 on Monday but had an 80 on Tuesday. But Bonvillain came through after an 81 on Monday to post a 76 on Tuesday to keep the team score down. Eric LeBlanc can be reached at EricL@heraldguide.com or at (985) 758-2795, ext. 219. |
