Griffin signs with Oklahoma Baptist

Oklahoma Baptist University has signed Ama native Jesse Griffin to a men’s basketball scholarship for the 2005-06 season.

Griffin comes to OBU from West Hills Community College in Coalinga, California. Griffin is a graduate of Shaw.

Griffin, who will major in business, is 5-11 and averaged 15.9 points and 4.5 rebounds per game, marks that made him WHCC’s leading scorer and second-leading rebounder. He shot 44 percent from three-point range and 79.3 percent from the free throw line. He was also named to the Central Valley Conference’s All-Conference Team and its All-Defensive Team.

“Some people think he is under-sized, but he plays bigger than 5-11,” said Bison coach Doug Tolin. “He’s excellent, both offensively and defensively. He has been his junior college’s best defensive player for the last two years."
