The St. Charles Herald-Guide Guide would like to congratulate the Destrehan and Hahnville girls soccer teams for their incredible seasons and would like to recognize the accomplishments of a few players. Every player on these two playoff teams deserves praise, but these three players stood out above the rest as deserving of our Parish Offensive MVP, Parish Defensive MVP and Player of the Future awards.

The winners are:

Girls Offensive MVP: Leighann Delatte & Ashley Eusea

The past few years of girls soccer in St. Charles Parish have been characterized by powerful offenses. This year was no exception with two of the most prolific goal scorers in the state playing for the two parish schools.

Delatte, a junior, won this award last year and remained the dominant force for the Lady Cats this season. With one year still left, she promises to lead Destrehan to another successful season. Delatte led the the Lady Cats in scoring this year and was also one of the top scorers in the state. She led the Lady Cats to a 12-2-2 overall record and a second place district finish. She was also recently named District and River Parishes MVP and she was honored on the All-Metro Team.

Eusea was the top scorer in the state of Louisiana this season, winning the Golden Boot Award. She led the Lady Tigers with 52 goals and she is only a freshman. Her scores helped Hahnville to a District Championship and an overall record of 15-6-2. She was named to the All-District and All-River Parishes Teams. And with three more years left at Hahnville, Eusea could end up being the most prolific goal scorer in school history.

Girls Defensive MVP: Brianne Childress

With all of the scoring for Destrehan and Hahnville this year, the spectacular defense of both teams was often overlooked. But the defense of one player has not been overlooked for the past three years as the Lady Tigers’ Brianne Childress takes home this award for the third consecutive year.

Childress helped lead the Lady Tigers to a second consecutive district championship and to the regional round of the state playoffs. She also helped the Lady Tigers hold the dynamic Destrehan offense scoreless in the district deciding game.

Childress was named District Defensive MVP for the second year in a row and she was also honored by being named to the All-River Parishes Team.

With Childress graduating this year, she leaves big shoes to fill for the next Hahnville sweeper.

Girls Player of the Future: Ashley Eusea

How often does a freshman lead her team in goals, much less the entire state? But that is exactly what Hahnville’s Ashley Eusea did this season.

Eusea dominated opposing defenses and opposing goalies this year, finding the back of the net over 50 times over the course of the season.

Eusea was also named to the All-District and All-River Parishes Teams. And with three years left at Hahnville, she should accumulate many more of those awards and honors before she is through.
