The Hahnville Tigers were not about to let themselves get knocked out of the playoffs in the first round like they were the last time they were district champions. This time, they came out on fire and closed out the game on fire in a 76-55 romp over the Bonnabel Bruins Friday night.

Leading the Tigers were Kentrell Lockett and Brian Singleton who each had 21 points. Lockett and Irvin Humphrey also both logged double-doubles with both grabbing 13 rebounds and Humphrey scoring 14 points. Reginald Lumar was also in double digits with 10 points.

The Tigers started the game in firm control. Led by Singleton’s seven points and Humphrey’s six, Hahnville led 15-9 at the end of the first quarter.

The Tigers extended their lead in the second quarter, outscoring the Bruins 21-13. Singleton again led the scoring with eight points while McArthur Strickland had five and Lockett put down four. That put the Tigers going into the half with a 36-22 lead.

Things were a little rough in the third quarter when the Bruin defense tightened and the Tigers were only able to score eight points. But the Tigers were playing well on defense as well as they only allowed 12 points from Bonnabel.

With the Bruins within 10 points at 44-34 at the end of the third, the Tigers turned on the offense for the fourth. A 32-point explosion rocked the fourth quarter, putting Hahnville well out of reach. Lockett led the charge, putting up 13 of his 21 points in the fourth. Lumar and Singleton also helped with six points each. The 32-21 run helped assure Hahnville of a victory and a spot in the regional round of the state playoffs.

Lumar and Singleton led the Tigers in assists with four while Kellen Francis led in steals with three and Humphrey led in blocks with four.

Also contributing on the scoreboard were Strickland with seven points and Francis with three points.

Hahnville will have faced the Slidell Tigers on the road on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Look to the Saturday edition of the Herald-Guide for complete coverage of that game.
