Tigers, Lady Tigers win Don Raymond Relays By Eric LeBlanc The Hahnville Tigers and Lady Tigers outran the competition last Wednesday as they defended their home track at the Don Raymond Relays. The Hahnville boys won by 13.5 points while the girls took a 10-point victory. Destrehan’s teams placed fifth (boys) and seventh (girls) respectively. Destrehan swept the boys MVP awards as Jai Eugene was named MVP of the running events while Chaz Washington was named MVP of the field events. Eugene won the 200-meters with a time of 21.58 and the 100 meters with a time of 10.56. The 200-meters mark was a new meet record. Washington placed second in the discus (131 feet, five and a half inches), third in the shot put (48 feet, four inches) and the javelin (132 feet, nine inches). The Tigers had several first-place finishers. Bryant Lee won the javelin with a throw of 154 feet, six and a half inches. Keith Nini won the pole vault with a height of nine feet. Marcus Campbell won the triple jump with a leap of 43 feet, six inches. Dale Berthelot won the 1600-meters with a time of 4:52.30. The Hahnville boys had several other athletes who placed. Matt Matherne placed second in the shot put with a throw of 49 feet, five inches. Ben Pierre took third in the javelin with a throw of 133 feet, one inch. Tyler Wilson placed second in the pole vault with a height of nine feet. Kevin Maddox placed third in the discus with a throw of 116 feet, 10 inches. Kernell Jupiter placed third in the triple jump with a leap of 41 feet, seven inches. Dustin Naquin placed third in the 3200-meters with a time of 12:17.36. James Ingram took third in the 100-meters with a time of 10.84. Shane Boyle placed third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.70. The 400-meter relay team also placed third in the 400-meter relay with a time of 42.85. The Destrehan boys also had several other athletes who placed. Chris Richard placed second in the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, nine inches and second in the triple jump with a leap of 42 feet, five inches. And Je’Quain Robinson took third in the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, four and three-quarters inches. The Hahnville girls had two first-place winners. Shunta Isaac won the high jump with a height of five feet, two inches. Janai Steib won the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, seven and three fourths inches. Her leap set a new meet record. The Hahnville girls also had several other athletes who placed. Kaswana Isaac took second in the triple jump with a leap of 34 feet, 11 inches and third in the high jump with a height of five feet. Danielle Douglas placed third in the 800-meters with a time of 2:26.70. And the girls 800-meter relay team placed third with a time of 1:51.00. The Destrehan girls also had several other athletes who placed. Erica Howard placed second in the long jump with a leap of 16 feet, eight and three fourths inches and second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.49. Ariel Hunt placed second in the discus with a throw of 99 feet, four inches. And Shaquieda Wells placed third in the 100-meters with a time of 12.80. The final boys results were Hahnville 112.5, John Ehret 99, West Jefferson 80, Karr 79.5, Destrehan 75, East St. John 42, DeLaSalle 21, Clark 10 and McMain 1. The final girls results were Hahnville 81, Blenk 71, Karr 68, Cabrini 56, East St. John 56, Mt. Carmel 55, Destrehan 43, West Jefferson 34, Higgins 30, McMain 16, DeLaSalle 12 and John Ehret 3.
