Hahnville, Destrehan dominate All-River Parish soccer honors Parish sweeps awards, grabs 16 of 22 selections (Photo by CLAUDE ADAMS) Destrehan and Hahnville are perennial soccer powers in the River Parishes, and evidence of this dominance was displayed in the Times-Picayune’s All-River Parish honors this week. The two schools swept all four awards and accounted for 16 of the 22 overall selections. Destrehan players took both Player of the Year honors. Wildcat Donald Delatte took the honors on the boys’ side while Leighann Delatte took the honors on the girls’ side. Destrehan Boys Head Coach Ray Brown earned Boys Coach of the Year honors while Hahnville Girls Head Coach Tom Gallagher earned Girls Coach of the Year honors. Destrehan had four selections to the boys’ team with Delatte, Stephen Rodrigue, Kyle Tizzard and Nick Wahab being honored. Hahnville had two selections with Nick Caropino and Travis VerHey being the honorees. The two teams almost completely swept the girls’ team. Only one player named to the All-River Parishes Girls Team is not a Lady Cat or Lady Tiger. Hahnville led with six selections. The Lady Tigers honored were Brianne Childress, Ashley Dufrene, Aletha Dunn, Ashley Eusea, Jennifer Madere and Megan Waters. The four Lady Cats honored were Leighann Delatte, Valerie Delatte, Katie Matthews and Sarah Matthews. |
