Childress, Delatte, Gallagher garner top district honors

Parish teams log 21 selections on All-District Team

The Hahnville Lady Tigers won District 6-5A this season and were followed closely by the Destrehan Lady Cats. Recently, the district recognized the success of each of these teams by naming 21 of their players to the All-District team.

Destrehan forward Leighann Delatte took top honors by being named District Overall MVP. Delatte led the the Lady Cats in scoring this year and was also one of the top scorers in the state. She led the Lady Cats to a 12-2-2 overall record and a second place district finish.

Hahnville sweeper Brianne Childress took top honors by being named District Defensive MVP while Hahnville Head Coach Tom Gallagher was named District Coach of the Year. Childress and Gallagher led the Lady Tigers to a District Championship and an overall record of 15-6-2. Childress also helped the Lady Tigers hold the dynamic Destrehan offense scoreless in the district deciding game.

The Lady Tigers also had six players named to the district first team. Those included goalie Megan Waters, Childress, defender Ashley Dufrene, midfielders Jennifer Madere and Aletha Dunn and forward Ashley Eusea. Destrehan had four players named to the first team. Those players included defender Katie Matthews, midfielders Valerie Delatte and Sarah Matthews and forward Leighann Delatte.

Destrehan also had four players named to the second team. Those players included goalie Gina Granger, defenders Taryn Ramsey and Katie Robinson and forward Kala Keller. Hahnville players named to the second team included midfielder Jessica Lauland and forwards Jessica Madere and Britney Aucoin.

Also given an honorable mention to to team were Destrehan’s Francie Abell and Heather Tizzard and Hahnville’s Rachel Byrd and Samantha May.
