Hahnville captures district title

The Hahnville Tigers secured themselves of a district title with a victory over the Thibodaux Tigers Tuesday night paired with a Terrebonne victory over Destrehan. A last-second buzzer-beater by MacArthur Strickland off of an assist by Ravon Singleton put Hahnville up 56-54 and gave them the win.

The win put Hahnville at 13-3 in district, which will be out of reach for all three second place teams. Destrehan, East St. John and Thibodaux each have 11-4 records and have one more district game Friday night while the Tigers have finished their district schedule.

Leading Hahnville Tuesday night was Brian Singleton with 20 points. Kentrell Lockett also broke into double digits with 14 points.

The game was a close fought battle with the score being tied after both the first quarter (14-14) and the second (26-26). Hahnville stepped up in the third and outscored Thibodaux 15-11, and that proved to be the difference maker in the game.

Thibodaux came back to outscore Hahnville 17-14 in the fourth quarter, but Strickland’s basket preserved the victory.

With the win, Hahnville improves to 26-6 overall and captures their second district title in three years.
