One win away

Tigers inch closer to district title with victory over Terrebonne

The Hahnville Tigers moved one step closer to the 6-5A district title Friday night with a 66-61 victory over the Terrebonne Tigers.

Four of the five starters broke into double digits while the fifth was one point away. Center Irvin Humphrey led the scoring and on the boards with 14 points and seven rebounds. He also blocked four shots. Reginald Lumar followed closely with 13 points and three assists. Kentrell Lockett and Brian Singleton were the other double digit scorers with 12 and 11 points respectively. Kellen Francis also chipped in nine points.

Humphrey started out the first quarter on a tear. He put up eight points and led Hahnville to an early 18-10 lead.

The Hahnville dominance continued into the second quarter, with Terrebonne putting up just 10 points again. Hahnville nearly duplicated their first quarter effort and scored 16 points in the second. Lumar led the second quarter with six points while Lockett and Francis each had four. And Lumar ended the first half with a dramatic three pointer that gave Hahnville a 34-20 lead.

The third quarter was dominated by the defenses. Terrebonne was limited to just 10 points again, while Hahnville only scored eight.

But the defenses did not hold through the end of the game as the two teams scored a combined 55 points in the fourth quarter. Terrebonne came back furiously with 31 points, but could not catch the Tigers from Hahnville who scored 24 in the period. Lockett led the fourth quarter scoring with six points while Brian Singleton followed with five and Lumar and Humphrey each spotted four.

Also contributing for Hahnville were Ravon Singleton with five points and two steals and James Ingram with two points.

With the victory, Hahnville improves to 25-6 overall and 12-3 in district. Hahnville will have already found out its fate in district when it faced the Thibodaux Tigers Tuesday night.
