Wildcats fall to Rummel in first round By Eric LeBlanc The Destrehan Wildcats boys soccer team’s season ended Friday night as the Rummel Raiders defeated them 2-0 in the first round of the state playoffs. The Wildcats controlled the ball much of the game but could not put the ball in the goal. The Raiders, however, took only five shots on goal during the game. But two of those went in, sending the Raiders into the regionals. The game started with both teams making goal runs. Destrehan started the night with a shot on goal from T. J. Favaloro. Rummel responded with two shots on goal with one being saved by goalie Nick Wahab. But then, Rummel’s Josh Thornton put one in before the half ended, giving the Raiders a 1-0 lead at halftime. Rummel came into the second half on the attack. Two great saves by Wahab stopped the first two Rummel shots on goal, but the third by Craig Kasen, found its way in and Rummel led 2-0. Destrehan then went on the attack and did not allow a Rummel shot the rest of the way. Shots on goal were taken by Zno Green, Luis Flores, Kyle Tizzard, Stephen Rodrigue and Favaloro but the Wildcats could not get one in the back of the net. With the loss, the Wildcats finish the season with a 17-6-1 overall record and the first district championship in school history.
