The Destrehan Lady Cats faced off against the Mt. Carmel Cubs Wednesday night in a regional round playoff game. Despite both teams playing evenly througout the game, the Cubs came out on top 2-0.

Destrehan was able to take three shots on goal in the game, all by Leighann Delatte. Mt. Carmel took eight, with two reaching the net.

Destrehan goalie Gina Granger made four saves in the game and defended several other attacks. Katie Matthews and Katie Robinson were also key on defense for the Lady Cats.

The game started quickly in favor of Mt. Carmel. Two quick shots on goal were followed by a goal from Krista Stern to give the Cubs an early 1-0 lead.

After another Cub shot on goal, the Lady Cats took control in the middle of the first half. The offense made several pushes and Delatte was able to take two of her three shots on goal during this time.

But the Lady Cat push ended when Mt. Carmel dashed down the field for another goal, this time from Loren Sherman. The Cubs would take one more shot on goal in the first half and Delatte would take one more just before the halftime whistle sounded.

With Mt. Carmel leading 2-0, the second half became a struggle for control. Each team would get the ball across midfield and into their opponent’s territory. Mt. Carmel’s two shots on goal were the only two of the second half, and the Cubs advanced to the quarterfinals.

With the loss, the Lady Cats end their season with an overall record of 12-2-2. Overall, the Lady Cats made an impressive effort against a 31-1-1 team.

Graduating seniors for the Lady Cats include Valerie Delatte and Katie Matthews.
