Wildcats take district Delatte scores three, Favaloro two in defeat of defending champs By Claude Adams The Destrehan Wildcats and the Central Lafourche Trojans faced off Friday night at Hahnville stadium to settle the 6-I District soccer championship. After a regular season tie with 7-1 district records, the Wildcats needed a one-game playoff to knock out the defending district champs. It did not take long for the Trojans to show why they should not be taken lightly. In the first 60 seconds of the game, Trojan Jacob Rodrigue netted the first score of the contest. Wildcat junior Donald Delatte responded to tie the score at 1-1 and kicked the go-ahead goal eight minutes later. Junior T.J. Favaloro scored late in the half to make it 3-1 in favor of the Wildcats. At the start of the second half, the Trojans scored first blood again with Jacob Pitre pushing one past Destrehan goalkeeper Nick Wahab. It would be the last score of the night allowed by Wahab. Destrehan showed outstanding stamina in the second half, outscoring the Trojans 4-1. Destrehan's first goal of the second half came from T.J. Favaloro and gave the Wildcats a 4-2 advantage. Later Delatte added his third score of the game, followed by scores from Luis Valladares and Robbie Anderson to bring the final tally to 7-2 The win gives Destrehan (17-5-1, 8-1) its first soccer district championship in school history. |
