Last weekend the Valero St. Charles United Way Bridge Run raised approximately $40,000 for community services for St. Charles Parish.

Over 1,550 runners and walkers from Louisiana and surrounding states crossed the Hale Boggs Bridge. The top male runner was Brendan Miniham, Jr. with a time of 16 minutes and six seconds. The top female runner was Melissa Cook with a time of exactly 17 minutes, setting a new course record for the female division.

The Team Participation trophy was won by the St. Charles Parish School System, who will hold the trophy for its second year. The trophy is a work of art, commissioned by Valero of St. Charles in 2004 from internationally recognized artist Matt Touchard. Valero St. Charles took second in team participation while Monsanto finished third.

Lou Moyer was the winner of the Cornucopia, a basket of goods and services, donated by businesses in the community.

The United Way of St. Charles provides programs of health and human services by: helping kids succeed, strengthening the community and supporting families, assisting with basic and emergency needs and promoting health, wellness and independence.

The organization is thankful for its volunteers and sponsors.
