River Parishes Hospital provided over 100 physicals to high school athletes in the river parishes area on Saturday, June 23 as part of the hospital's Sports Medicine Program.
Physicals were provided at a cost of $5 each, which was in turn donated back to the schools' athletic departments.
Four area high schools participated in the physical clinic, including St. James High School, East St. John High School, West St. John High School and Destrehan High School.
Several hospital physicians were on-hand, including Brad Thompson, MD, Christy Montegut, MD, Andrew St. Martin, MD, Charles McGaff, MD, and William Johnson, MD, as well as staff from the hospital's Physical Therapy Department, Marketing Department, Occupational Medicine Clinic and Surgical Services.
Hospital staff also provided on-site physicals for the athletes at St. Charles Catholic High School.
Now the hospital is getting ready for its annual Saturday Sports Clinics. The clinics are open every Saturday during the 10-week football season to treat and counsel injured athletes.
"We are happy to provide physicals for our high school athletes in the hopes of having a safe and prosperous athletic season," said Carrie Fisk, Marketing Director.
"If the need arises, we will be available for consultation through our Saturday morning clinics to assess any injuries and ensure a safe and quick return to the playing field."
