Four large vessels moved

By Staff Report - March 15, 2006

Valero St. Charles Refinery and Mammoet USA will be transporting 4 large vessels, weighing 150-580 tons, March 15-19.

Route will consist of transit down River Road to Apple Street to Highway 61 to Prospect Avenue to Valero St. Charles (Please see map).

Equipment will be used for the Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel project construction at Valero.

The vessels will be transported upriver on one large barge. They will then be driven off the barge and through town on multi-axle SPMT's (self propelled motorized transporters).

The Valero St. Charles Refinery has 570 employees and 350 full-time contract employees. It refines 260,000 barrels of oil per day and its primary products include gasoline, diesel, jet fuel and other petroleum products. The St. Charles Refinery is one of 18 refineries owned and operated by Valero Energy Corporation.

The Ultra-Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) project is a refinery process upgrade necessary to meet new environmental regulations, which reduces the sulfur content of on-road diesel in the US.

Mammoet USA is a world-wide specialist in heavy transport and lifting.
