Read how your child can start hunting without a license

By Staff Report - February 21, 2007

You can put your child on the fast track to hunting even without a full license, says the National Wild Turkey Federation.

Thanks to a hunter education deferral program, young and novice hunters in Louisiana can hunt with an adult mentor before completion of a hunter education course, the group says.

Through the program, new hunters who purchase a hunter education deferral license can go hunting for 30 days with a licensed hunter who is age 18 or older.

The deferral license can be purchased once, after which novice hunters must complete a hunter education course to become fully licensed.

Reducing and eliminating age and other barriers that prevent people from hunting is a major component of the Families Afield initiative. Started by the National Wild Turkey Federation, the U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance and the National Shooting Sports Foundation, amilies Afield aims to remove youth hunting barriers throughout the country.
