Skeletal remains discovered near a Hammond home have been identified as those of a 31-year-old Hahnville graduate who was reported missing in January.
Police had been searching for Jonathan Gordon, a 2000 graduate of Hahnville High School, since his vehicle was found abandoned in the Ponchatoula area on Jan. 9. Gordon was an Army veteran who earned several medals during Operation Iraqi Freedom, including the Army Commendation Medal. He grew up in Luling and was an avid outdoorsman.
A man living on North Brickyard Road in Hammond was plowing a field on his property when he discovered bones lying on the ground late last month. Deputies with the Tangipahoa Sheriff’s Office secured the area and the LSU Faces Laboratory was able to identify the remains as Gordon.
Bryan Kubelka, from Bayou Gauche, was good friends with Gordon in high school but the two lost touch in recent years.
“He was a very funny, easygoing guy in high school,” Kubelka said. “He was quiet and mischievous, like everyone we hung out with. Playing jokes on people was his thing.”
The cause of death has not been determined. Anyone with information regarding Gordon’s death is asked to call the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office at (985) 902-2088.
