The Destrehan Lady Wildcats cruised past Belle Chasse but lost to both Mt. Carmel and Ursuline to finish with a 1-2 record in the Catfish Classic, which matched up some of the top teams from around the state at the West Bank Bridge Park in Luling.

The Lady Wildcats got off to a good start in the Catfish Classic on Friday, scoring seven runs in the final two innings on their way to a 12-5 win over Belle Chasse.
The Lady Wildcats took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a two RBI double by Anna Hall. In the third, Destrehan increased their lead to 4-1 after Bailee Hurm drew a bases loaded walk to bring in one runner and Amanda McNaughton followed with another walk that brought home Morgan Foret.
Alexa Williams increased the Lady Wildcat lead to 5-1 after stealing home in the fourth inning, and Destrehan put the game away with three more runs in the sixth.
Gabrielle Marks singled to left field to start the scoring and Hurm was hit by a pitch, driving in another runner.McNaughton came through with an RBI single later in the inning to make the score 8-1.
The Lady Wildcats went on top 12-2 in the seventh after RBI singles by Marks and Hurm combined with a grounder by McNaughton that brought home Destrehan’s final two runs of the inning.
Belle Chasse got three of those runs back in the bottom of the seventh, but it wasn’t enough as the Lady Wildcats held on for the win.
Krista Robles picked up the win for Destrehan, striking out six while allowing 10 hits in seven innings.
Hurm led the team from the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Hall, McNaughton and Marks each finished with two RBIs.Destrehan 3 Mt. Carmel 15
The Lady Wildcats struggled in their second game of the tournament, falling to Mt. Carmel 15-3.
Mt. Carmel led 8-3 after three innings but put the game away with six runs in the fifth frame to end the game early due to the mercy rule.
Destrehan got on the board with an RBI single by Hall in the first inning, and chipped into the Mt. Carmel lead with a pair of runs in the third. Those runs came courtesy of a two RBI single by Casey Desentz.
However, Mt. Carmel’s bats proved to be too much for the Lady Wildcats.
Robles suffered the loss for Destrehan after giving up 12 hits in five innings, but only four of Mt. Carmel’s 15 runs were earned. She struck out one in the game.
McNaughton went 2-for-3 in the game, while Desentz finished with two RBIs.
Hall and Marks were the only other Lady Wildcats to record hits in the loss.Destrehan 5 Ursuline 6
Destrehan was in control for much of their final tournament game against Ursuline, but Ursuline came through with a stunning comeback win after scoring six runs in the seventh inning.
Neither team was able to make much of a mark in the first three innings, but the Lady Wildcats took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth.
Foret got her team on the board with a sacrifice bunt that scored Williams, and Marks followed with a sacrifice fly to bring home Desentz.
Destrehan increased their lead to 5-0 in the fifth. Robles singled to drive in one of those runs and Desentz jacked a two RBI double through third to give her team a five-run lead.
However, Ursuline’s bats came alive in the seventh with four singles, a double and an error leading to six runs.
Robles, who was in command for much of the game, suffered the loss after giving up nine hits and four earned runs in seven innings. She struck out two in the game.
Desentz led Destrehan from the plate after going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Marks, Foret and Robles also drove in runs in the game.
After the tournament, the Lady Wildcats are now 5-3 on the season.
