Second person in 8 days killed while walking on Luling highway

For the second time in eight days, a pedestrian was struck by a car and killed while walking on a Luling highway.

On Friday night shortly before 6 p.m., Shantrelle Dunmiles, 32, was killed on LA 631 (Old Spanish Trail). According to the crash report, Dunmiles was walking east on the edge of the westbound lane when Nakita Thomas, 59, of Silsbee, Texas, began to pass the car in front of him. As Thomas entered the westbound lane to overtake the car, his Dodge Ram struck Dunmiles, who died upon impact.

Thomas submitted to a chemical test and the results are pending. The crash remains under investigation.

On Nov. 2, a North Carolina man was killed after he was struck by a truck on Highway 90 near Pier 90 in Luling.Wadie Willis, 46, was in the right lane of travel when he was hit by a Ford F-150 driven by a Lafayette man. Police do not believe that the driver of the truck, Tremaine Leday, was speeding or impaired before the accident.
