Air Destrehan

By Kristian Garic - December 20, 2006

The Ladycat basketball team is coming off of their third Sweet 16 appearance. Last season with a veteran laden ball club the Ladycats were named Bi-District Champions and made a cameo appearance in the state semi-finals, posting an overall record of 25-8 with a 6-2-district record.

This season is a bit of a rebuilding year for the Ladycats. Destrehan welcomes several new faces to the line-up this season and it might take them some time to develop team chemistry.

If coach Ulysses Frontha can pull the right strings the Wildcats have a shot at making some noise on the court.

With a Record of 6-9 and back-to-back losses against McDonough 35 and Xavier prep the Lady Wildcats basketball team is still feeling good about themselves.

As they should, while they are not "grasping the magnitude of Lady Wildcat basketball over the last ten years" says Coach Ulysses Frontha.

"They are young and learning and continue to play hard."

While coach Frontha has enjoyed good success in his tenure with the lady cats he notes that there are challenges.

"I like this team," says Frontha.

" The big challenge is getting them to do the little things. The little things help you win."

With a team loaded with young talent and a rising star in 6-4 sophomore center Ladaisha Smith the future looks really bright for his team.

While this team is young and inexperienced they will be tough to beat when this team takes the court over the next few years.

"We will be a force to be reckoned with in the future."

Right now the Ladycats are just taking tiny steps to get better and coach Frontha is very proud of how this team has responded to tough games this season quickly praising the play Tawanna Lee.

While this team may be young, the future so bright the lady cats basketball team might just have to wear shades.
Boys team is off to a good start.

The Destrehan High School boy’s basketball team is off to a good start but the most important part of their schedule is yet to be played.

If the Wildcats want to make a run they need to win key district games. Down the stretch they play rival Hahnville twice along with two hard court showdowns with East St. John.

Last year’s Ladycat basketball team was comprised of veteran players and were named the Bi-District Champions and finished the season 6-2.
