Holiday shopping nightmare

Heather R. Breaux - December 6, 2006

Long lines in a sea of swirling sale advertisements. The sound of loose change dropping into plastic cash register drawers and the shuffling of feet amidst it all. And it isnít even daybreak yet.

Yes, itís true. The holiday shopping season has arrived and I dread fighting the crowds.
Looking for a place to park at the mall is exhausting enough without having to crawl out of bed before the sun comes up to catch a great buy.

Every year I say that I will beat the mad rush and shop early, but I never do. I always wait until the last minute.

Now, donít get me wrong - I love to shop. Whether it be for myself or for friends and family.

I just want all the other shoppers to get out of my way. Let me get in and get out as quickly without a fight.

So, whatís my game plan for this year? Well letís just say that I have yet to purchase one gift. Not even a sweet red and white candy cane.

Iíve got my list and Iíve checked it twice, but I havenít crossed anything off of it yet.

I look at it this way, I have about two weeks left before my shopping adventure becomes lost cause.

And maybe, just maybe, Iíll catch a break this year.

Who knows, maybe every one else got a head start and Iíll walk up to the sales counters and there will be no long lines and no frantic shoppers.

Yeah, right. Only in a perfect world would that happen.

So to all my fellow last-minute shoppers, hope to see you at the finish line.
