It was a horrifying sight to see some 19 people gunned down while watching a second line march on Motherís Day.
Such strange things have been happening lately that certainly are not in tune with a civilized society.
And this one was not in a faraway terrorist hotspot. This was right here at home in the big city next door, which means we have work to do to tame society so we can live a peaceful existence.
Our police forces are our public protection agencies but they need help. They are not everywhere that problems could arise. We should not hesitate to report suspicious activities that could lead to dangerous situations.
Our children should be taught from day one what a dangerous situation looks like and how to report such an incident.
Neighborhood organizations in many areas help to bring peaceful coexistence by getting people to know and respect each other. Members keep watch not only on their own residences but also on those of others.
We can also do a lot more to publicize safety measures that people can take to insure their safety in public. With the many means of communication we have today, that should be easy.
Hopefully, human natures will turn more peaceful in the future but we canít count on it. We have to be on the lookout for danger, even on our own parade route. And, be prepared.
