Parish awarded emergency food and shelter funds
From staff and wire reports - Oct 06, 2011
St. Charles Parish has been chosen to receive $19,378.00 to supplement emergency food and shelter programs according to Timothy J. Vial, Chairman of the Local Emergency Food & Shelter Board.
"This is the twenty-eighth award the Parish has received since 1984", Vial noted, "bringing over $649,030.00 of direct assistance to needy Parish residents." The selection was made by a national board charged to distribute $119,760,000.00 appropriated by Congress to help expand the capacity of food and shelter programs in high need areas of the country.
The local board will determine how the funds are to be distributed among the emergency assistance programs serving the Parish, at a meeting to be held at 9:30 a.m., Monday, October 17, 2011 at the Parish Courthouse. The local board is responsible for awarding grants to agencies that are nonprofit, have an accounting system, do not discriminate, have the ability to run programs and have a voluntary board.
Further information on the program may be obtained by contacting Timothy J. Vial at (985) 783-5000.
