Special to the Herald-Guide -   Sep 15, 2011

By Renee Simpson

St. Charles Parish government will again provide citizens with a behind-the-scenes look at the workings of parish infrastructure, including pumping stations and the Emergency Operations Center, during its fall ‘Info Tour.’

Tours will be held on the West Bank Oct. 13 and the East Bank Oct. 14 from 8 a.m. to noon each day. Meetup for both tours will be at the St. Charles Parish Courthouse Council Chambers, second floor, at 15045 River Road in Hahnville. The tour is free and transportation and refreshments will be provided.

The Info Tour is meant to educate citizens on the many sites that provide critical services to St. Charles Parish citizens, St. Charles Parish President V.J. St. Pierre said.

Patrons will also have the chance to interface with various department heads and the parish president, who will answer questions about current infrastructure and future plans.

West Bank residents are invited on Oct. 13 to tour the Luling Oxidation Pond, Hahnville wastewater treatment plant, pumping stations, Luling waterworks plant and more.

East Bank residents are invited on Oct. 14 to tour and receive information on the Destrehan wastewater treatment plant, East Bank hurricane protection levee and Cross Bayou pumping station, New Sarpy waterworks plant and expansion and more. Both tours include an abbreviated courthouse tour and Emergency Operations Center tour.

To reserve a spot on the Info Tour, call (985) 783-5182 or fill out the online form located at www.scpinfotour.org. Space is limited.

A virtual tour is also available at the above address.
