According to the St. Charles Sheriff’s Office, the parish’s first homicide this year took place on Sun., Sept. 17 at 10: 30 p.m.
Deputies were called to the scene of a man lying face down in the street at 722 E. Terrace St. in New Sarpy.
The victim was later identified as 49-year-old Broderick Howard of 744 E. Terrace St.
It appeared to officers that Howard had been shot once in the upper torso. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Currently, investigators have no motives or witnesses, only the testimonies of a neighbor and the victim’s sister. They both report hearing two shots before his body was discovered.
Sheriff Champagne told the St. Charles Herald Guide that the department is currently investigating a few leads, but no real concrete information has come their way.
Champagne also wants residents to know that this incident does not imply that there is a mass murderer on the loose.
“The victim had an extensive criminal record,” said Champagne. “Chances are this guy probably knew his killer.”
This is the parish’s first homicide since October 2005, and anyone with any information leading to the responsible party are asked to contact Detective Eric Brass at 783-1135.
