Chemical plants benefit parish

Our View -   Dec 16, 2010

Chemical plants have been a blessing to St. Charles Parish. They have brought prosperity to the parish and they have brought to our area many wonderful people we would never have known otherwise.

According to news reports, however, polluting chemicals have been released by such plants that could threaten workers and residents. But the major pollution seems to be in other areas, not St. Charles.

The possibility of major calamity from petrochemical plant malfunctions demands that they be kept running right, efficiently and safely. And plant operators in St. Charles seem to be able to provide a safe atmosphere for our citizens.

St. Charles has been one of the most cosmopolitan parishes in the state, mainly because of our petrochemical industry. As a result of it, we have people from many other states that have relocated here to work for the plants that have international relationships.

No other area of our state has a workforce that comes from so many parts of our country. We certainly are very privileged to host such an enlightened segment of our society.

Our petrochemical industry is a plus for St. Charles Parish. It needs to continue in a safe and productive way.
