Murphy Cortez a native of Des Allemands married Mittie Stevens a native of Bayou Sally in Des Allemands 65 years ago on June 1,1945.

There they raised 5 daughters and then in 1972  they moved to Paradis where they still reside.

They have 18 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

They celebrated their anniversary with a ride around town in a 1959 Ford Edsel then came back to a surprise party with family and friends.
