Dawn Erica Matherne, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eric J Matherne of Bayou Gauche, Louisiana, was married on Saturday April 29, 2006 to Dr. Brett Cowan Meyer, son of Ms. Karen Meyer and Dr. John Meyer of Hollywood, Fla. Rabbi Alan Tufts officiated the sunset ceremony at the Pelican Beach Resort in Fort Lauderdale.

Mrs. Dawn Matherne Meyer is the Director of JCAHO Stroke Certification and a Stroke Hospitalist Nurse Practitioner in San Diego. She graduated with her BS in Nursing from Nicholls State University in 1998 and with her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas in 2002. Dawn will be entering UCLA in the fall to pursue a PhD in nursing. She has received the Chancellor's Award, the most prestigious academic scholarship offered at UCLA. Her research focuses on a novel treatment of acute stroke patients, which may result in new therapies for thousands of stroke victims.

Dawn is the granddaughter of Mrs. Audrey Matherne and the late Mr. Warren Matherne of Bayou Gauche, La. and Mrs. Gloria Collins and the late Mr. Alvin Collins of Houma, La.
Dr. Brett Meyer is Co-Director of the UCSD Stroke Center and Assistant Professor of Neurology. He graduated with a BS in Systems' Biology from Northwestern University, in Chicago. He completed medical school and residency at the University of Florida and a fellowship in Vascular Neurology at UCSD. Dr. Meyer's research focuses on treating acute stroke patients in rural areas via telemedicine.

Brett is the grandson of Mrs. Beatrice Cowan and the late Mr. Henry Cowan, and Mrs. Lisel Meyer and the late Mr. Richard Meyer of Hollywood, Fla.

Ms. Suzanne Wheat of Houston, Texas served as the Maid of Honor and Mr. Adam Kasle of Houston, Texas as the Best Man. Ushers included the bride's brother Mr. Ryan Matherne of Metairie, Louisiana and the groom's brothers Mr. Jeremy Meyer of Margate, Florida and Mr. Hayden Meyer of Los Angeles, Calif.

After the couple honeymoon on St. Lucia, they will reside in San Diego, Calif.
