McCain, Kennedy carry St. Charles Parish By Allen Lottinger - Nov 06, 2008
Sen. John McCain carried St. Charles Parish in Tuesday’s presidential election with 65 percent of the vote. The tallies were 16,456 for the Republican and 8,515 for his Democratic opponent, Barrack Obama who won the election nationwide. In the U. S. Senate race, Republican John Kennedy narrowly led in St. Charles over his Democratic opponent, the incumbent Mary Landrieu, 12,095 to 11,783. Incumbent Landrieu won the election in a close statewide vote. Steve Scalise led Jim Harlan in St. Charles Parish for District 1 congressman 3,906 to 1,865. Scalise won districtwide. In the race for District 1 public service commission member, Eric Skrmett led John F. Schwegmann 4,580 to 2,962 in St. Charles. Skrmett won districtwide.
