Louisiana Press Association held its annual banquet honoring the best newspapers throughout the state this past weekend in Baton Rouge.

In Division 6, The St. Charles Herald-Guide won Newspaper of the Year, based on the number of points earned in the Better Newspaper Editorial Competition and the Better Advertising Competition for 2005.

In overall awards, the Guide won for best News Coverage. In overall Sports Coverage, the Guide finished in first. Our Lifestyles Section was also awarded Best Coverage.

For individual awards, Colette Lottinger's piece "To Hell and Back" won Best News Story, and Ann Taylor and Eric LeBlanc won Best Investigating Reporting for "St. Charles Parish a Ticking Time bomb." Eric LeBlanc also won for Best Photo Feature.

The St. Charles Herald-Guide also won first place for Best Advertising Idea or Promotion and first place for Best Classified Section.

In addition to being honored and overwhelmed by the awards, the staff of the Herald-Guide wishes to thank our readers, advertisers and Mother Nature for making last year memorable.
