Children in St. Charles Parish will have the opportunity to get a nutritious and balanced meal from June 5 through July 13 at four designated food service sites throughout the parish.

The summer food program is a child nutrition program funded by the United States Department of Agriculture. The primary purpose of the food service program is to provide nutritious meals to needy children 18 years of age and younger during the months when school is not in session.

School communities qualify for the program if 50 percent or more of students in the parish are approved for free or reduced meals in the school system. Once the required percentage of eligible children is documented, any child may eat meals offered at the sites at no charge regardless of economic status.

Two busses will be provided on the east and west banks of St. Charles Parish to transport children to serving sites at St. Rose Elementary, Eual J. Landry Alternative Center, Norco Elementary and R.J. Vial Elementary.

“We are very happy to continue to provide this service to the children of St. Charles Parish,” said Steve Sirmon, Public Information Officer for St. Charles Parish.
