Economy sick when government is the top employer
By C.B. Forgotston - Oct 04, 2007
According to the story from the Associated Press, while overall job growth in LA has slowed, government job growth (particularly state government) continues to lead all other job producing segments of the economy.
The largest area of growth occurred in government, which had 9,300 more jobs in August than a year ago, including a jump of 9,100 in state government.
I'm not an economist, but when government is the largest producer of jobs in Louisiana, it is at least anecdotal evidence of a sick economy. When government job growth leads in a state where the overall population has declined and where public elementary and secondary and higher education enrollment is in decline, it is evidence of a VERY sick economy.
