LULING - Vince’s Auto Parts Repair & Tire Center is hosting the 1st Annual St. Charles Parish Concert in the Park at the Westbank Bridge Park in Luling on Saturday, Sept. 22 from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. featuring the music of Vince Vance.
Senior health fair on tap this weekend
LAPLACE - The River Parishes Hospital Senior Friends Program is hosting a senior health fair on Tuesday, Sept. 25 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. in suite 309 of the River Parishes Hospital Medical Pavilion.
Senior Friend members will be able to take advantage of an array of free health screenings and health-related information.
Non-members who are 50 years and older can take advantage of this special opportunity at a cost of $10.

ST. ROSE - The American Legion River Road Post 366 is sponsoring a blood drive in partnership with Ochsner on Sept. 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 12188 River Road in St. Rose.
All donors will receive a T-shirt, a mini physical, cholesterol test and blood assurance package, along with sandwiches, snacks, cookies and drinks.
Donors will also be entered into a drawing for two New Orleans Saints club-level tickets for the Saints vs Panthers game to be held on Sun., Oct. 7.

Self Defense Workshop for kids ages 6 to 14 on Thursday, Sept. 20 at Lakewood Elementary from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and at Destrehan High on Thursday, Oct. 18 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Child fingerprinting is Thursday, Sept. 20 at Lakewood Elementary from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. and at Destrehan High on Thursday, Oct. 18 from 6 p.m. to 7p.m.

NEW ORLEANS - The Gulf Coast Home and Garden Expo and The Gulf Coast Building and Remodeling Expo will open to the public at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans on Friday Sept. 28 and run through Sunday, Sept. 30. Admission is free.
The combined expo will provide guests with gardening, landscaping and home decorating advice, ideas and products. It will also gather hundreds of new construction, rebuilding and remodeling industry professionals under one roof.
The expo will showcase more than 60 exhibitors and government agencies from across the country.
Expo hours: Friday, 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

LULING - The annual United Way of St. Charles’ Battle for the Paddle is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 4 from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the West Bank Bridge Park.
The event is a gumbo and jambalaya cook-off between teams who cook up their own special recipes on-site and serve the results to attendees of all ages who pay $5 for this all-you-can-eat extravaganza.
Sign up your team to battle ir out for the 2007 title. Registration deadline is Sept. 21. Entry fee: $50. Teams are limited to four people.

VACHERIE - St. Joseph Plantation announces its second annual Mourning Tour featuring the customs and rituals of 19th century Creole Louisiana from Monday, Oct. 1 through Saturday, Nov. 3.
The house will be dressed in full deep mourning - according to the old prescribed protocol of mourning.
The plantation is located along River Road in Vacherie with daily tours Monday through Saturday at 9:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. and on SUndays at noon and 4 p.m.
