The Art of Jazz: An interactive exhibit at the Hahnville library
From staff and wire reports - May 03, 2007
A traveling exhibit by the Louisiana State Museum will be at the Hahnville branch of the St. Charles Parish Library through May 25.
The Hahnville branch is located at 14996 River Road, directly across from the St. Charles Parish Courthouse.
Jazz and jazz musicians have been a favorite subject of artists since the 1920s.
This traveling exhibit shows how jazz music has been interpreted in ways as diverse as portraiture, abstraction and commercial art by artists from Louisiana and around the globe
The exhibit has easy-to-read panels and colorful reproductions of works of art from the collections of the Louisiana State Museum and Preservation Hall.
There are also hands-on components that encourage active learning.
In addition to the exhibit, the R.K. Smith Jazz Band will perform at the Hahnville branch May 8 at noon.
Everyone is invited to attend this performance
Contact the Hahnville branch library staff at 985-783-2341 with any questions about this exhibit or the jazz band performance.
