Star Struck

By Heather R. Breaux -   Feb 22, 2007

If you’ve ever met a celebrity, then you probably remember how shocked or happy it made you feel - even if you weren’t a big fan.

There’s something about meeting someone with “star status” that makes you grin from ear to ear.

When I was 8, my mom and her friend took me to the mall with them to meet an actor from the soap opera, Guiding Light.

And even though I had no idea who this “hunk” was, I was in awe and pinned the autographed Polaroid to the wall in my room.

My next meet-and-greet didn’t take place until I was 15, but this time I couldn’t wait for my celebrity encounter.

My best friend and I drove to downtown New Orleans to meet our favorite band, Better Than Ezra.

We waited in the radio station’s lobby for several hours before the threesome arrived.

And lucky for us, when they finally emerged from the elevator, the group was happy to oblige by taking photos with us and signing autographs.

But my most memorable moment to date has to be when I met CNN’s broadcast journalist, Anderson Cooper.

I anxiously stood in line at Borders bookstore rehearsing in my head what to say, but when I stepped up to the table my brain froze.

Instead of telling him how much I admired his work, all I could muster up was “I love you.”

How embarassing! I might as well of asked him to marry me!

He replied to my declaration of love with, “Well, it’s nice to meet you too,” and thanked me for waiting.

Afterwards, I felt silly, but I will treasure that moment forever.

Who knows, if I see Anderson again, maybe I WILL ask him to marry me. He just might get flustered himself - and say, “Yes!”
