Destrehan Lady Wildcats fight to stay in playoffs “We take one game at a time.” By Pat Smith - Feb 23, 2006
Destrehan Lady Wildcats clinched their first win in a bi-district play-off game on last Thursday against Covington. They defeated them with a score of 78-54. However, part two of this journey wasn't so easy when they faced their second opponent on Monday of this week. This game was high-energy for both teams. In the last seconds of this game, the Lady Wildcats managed to squeeze by with a win beating Ellender by one point 44-43. Senior Candice McGee was instrumental in both games. In the game against Covington, she happened to be the highest scorer with a total of 24 points. In her game against Ellender, she led the team with over 22 rebounds. In our game against Covington, "we were able to keep our momentum," said Coach Frontha. "We made some mistakes offensively early in the game." At the halftime, the Wildcats took a lead of 14 points ending with a 37-23 score. By the third quarter, the Covington Lions cut the lead by four. "What's going on?"
