Lady Wildcats crush ESJ, fall to H.L. Bourgeois

The Destrehan Lady Wildcats dominated East St. John 21-0 on Thursday, but fell to H.L. Bourgeois on Friday, which kept the Lady Wildcats in second place in district play with an 11-2 record.

The Lady Wildcats used a 13-run second inning to blow past East St. John 21-0.

In the first inning, Destrehan jumped on top 3-0. Morgan Foret drew a bases-loaded walk to start the scoring, and Alexa Williams came home on a passed ball to put the Lady Wildcats up 2-0. The team’s final run of the inning came on a double to center by Gabrielle Marks.

Destrehan put the game away in the second inning. Krista Robles singled in the first run of the frame, and Williams plated Anna Hall with a sacrifice fly. Robles later came in to score on a passed ball to put her squad up 7-0, and Marks singled in another run with a liner to left field.

Singles by Amanda McNaughton, Robles and Foret combined with a double by Marks to put Destrehan up 16-0.

In the third inning, a  bases-clearing triple by Alexis Kennedy, plus another single by Foret, put the finishing touches on the 21-0 win.

Foret led the Lady Wildcats from the plate, going 2-for-3 with four RBIs. Marks was a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBIs, while Kennedy drove in three runs on her triple.

McNaughton and Robles each finished with two RBIs in the win.

Robles no-hit East St. John through the first two innings, finishing with four strikeouts. Carla Beck pitched a perfect inning of relief, striking out every batter she faced.

Despite scoring 21 runs a day before, the Lady Wildcats couldn’t muster much offense in a 4-1 loss to H.L. Bourgeois.

H.L. Bourgeois scored a run in the first inning, added two more in the third and finished with a run in the fourth. Destrehan’s only run came in the sixth inning, even though the Lady Wildcats recorded nine hits in the game.

Marks set up Destrehan’s lone score by hitting a ground ball double that advanced Foret to third. Bailee Hurm drove Foret in a batter later after hitting a fly ball over second.That was as close as the Lady Wildcats got to H.L. Bourgeois.

Hall led Destrehan from the plate, going 2-for-3. Robles went 2-for-4, while Williams, Casey Desentz, Foret, Marks and Hurm each recorded hits in the game.

Robles suffered the loss, giving up four earned runs on 10 hits in seven innings.

Destrehan was scheduled to face Hahnville on Tuesday, but the game was cancelled due to field conditions. The teams played each other on Wednesday, but the game occurred after press deadline. Visit for an in-depth report of the Hahnville vs. Destrehan game.
