Can you top this?

... actually it's a 257-year-old Dutch tobacco tin that Derek Clontz's great-great-great-great grandfather, Alexander Clontz, brought over from Germany when he sailed to Philadelphia via Rotterdam, in the Netherlands, in 1749, 27 years before the American Revolution.

As old as the thing is, its appraised value is only $40. As it turns out, just about everyone heading for the colonies in the mid 18th century picked up a tobacco tin for the long, wet trip ahead.

Got something bigger, getter, older, wilder or weirder than Derek’s tin? We want to put you in the St.Charles Herald-Guide. Show us your:

Memorabilia of any kind ... cool fingernails ... relic or family heirloom ...

collection of anything ... big vegetable or fruit ... strange vegetable ... great photo of anything ... coolest clothes ... big thing.

E-mail editor@heraldguide.com or post a letter describing what you've got. Write: Can You Top This?, P.O. Box 1199, Boutte, LA 70039. Be sure to include a phone number. We'll do the rest.
