Kathryn Prendergast has been selected as Hahnville High School Student of the Year.

She is an active member of the HHS talented theatre program, student council, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Beta Club, National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society and the International Thespian Honor Society.

She volunteers her talents in the community through service organizations, community theatre, singing in nursing homes and volunteering at physical therapy clinics.

After school, Prendergast aspires to have a double major in Kinesiology and Theatre, ultimately becoming a physical therapist for performing artists.

School officials said she would like to extend her deepest gratitude to her parents, brother and teachers for instilling within her the love of learning.

Students who compete for student of the year put together a portfolio that is then judged by a committee of school administrators.

Prendergast will now be considered for the high school student of the year award for the entire parish to be awarded on Nov. 9. At least three judges who will be determining that award will come from the business community.

Prendergast is the daughter of Michael and Allison Prendergast.
