From staff and wire reports - Mar 22, 2012
A Luling woman was involved in a crash that led to the death of a Harvey man Sunday morning, according to the Louisiana State Police.
The crash occurred shortly before 10:30 a.m. According to the investigating troopers, a 1998 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by Latasha Passit of Luling, was turning from the southbound left turn lane at LA 45 and Taravella Street when it struck a 2001 Harley Davidson Motorcycle.
The Harley Davidson was being driven by Gary Sibley of Harvey. Sibley was transported to University Hospital in New Orleans and was treated for a broken pelvis and femur.
The New Orleans Parish Coronerís Office later advised State Police that Sibley had died that afternoon.
It is still unknown whether the crash was the primary cause of his death or whether a pre-existing medical problem was present. Sibley was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Investigating Troopers report that alcohol was not a factor in the crash. Routine toxicology tests are pending and this crash remains under investigation.
