HHS choir to compete in 2012 World Choir Games in Ohio

The Hahnville High School Vocal Ensemble has officially registered to participate in the 2012 World Choir Games, the largest international choral competition in the world, it was announced by INTERKULTUR, the International Organizing Committee of the World Choir Games.

The event, known as the "Olympics of choral music," will take place July 4-14 in Cincinnati – the first time ever the World Choir Games will be held in North America.

The World Choir Games takes place every two years. Approximately 20,000 participants representing 70 countries, are expected to attend the 2012 games.

There will be competition in 23 musical categories, including Barbershop and Show Choirs, which have been added for the first time because of their popularity in the United States.

Previous World Choir Games have taken place in Austria, China, Germany and Korea.

The Games are dedicated to the Olympic ideal that participation is the highest honor.

"This is the first time we are bringing the Games to the United States and the pride and enthusiasm of the North American choirs is astounding" said a representative from INTERKULTUR. "The Hahnville High School Vocal Ensemble will be representing Boutte to the world."
