Blackwell

Alta “Sweetie” Winterbottom Blackwell of Destrehan passed away on Oct. 2. She was 80 years old.

Born in Lake Charles, she was a resident of St. Rose for 45 years and of Destrehan for one and a half years. She was retired as confidential assistant to the register of voters of St. Charles Parish.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter J. and Alta Romero Winterbottom, her son Charles F. Blackwell Jr. and two brothers. Walter J. Winterbottom Jr. and Timothy Winterbottom. She is survived by her sons, Claude W. Foreman Jr., Charles M. Blackwell, Patrick G. Blackwell, Walter L. Blackwell, Robert E. Blackwell and Daniel B. Blackwell, her daughter Sandra F. Schexnaydre, her brothers Daniel, Robert, Arthur and James Winterbottom, 19 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Mass was held on Oct. 5 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Kenner, followed by interment at St. Charles Borromeo in Destrehan.

DeSoto

Raymond “R.D.” DeSoto, a native of Luling and resident of Montegut, passed away on Oct. 7. He was 73 years old.

He is survived by his wife, Ethel P. DeSoto, sons James and Dwayne DeSoto, daughters Judy Gravois and Susan Hodge, brother Luther DeSoto, sisters Kitty Gremillion, Rose “Doddle” Hebert, Gertrude Michot and Patsy Catania, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Telesman and Clementine Willaba DeSoto, brothers Wellman and Rudy DeSoto and sister Dorothy Ducote. Services were held on Oct. 9 at St. Anthony Church in Luling followed by interment at St. Charles Cemetery.

Dutt

Vivian Alice Poirrier St. Amant Dutt passed away on Oct. 13 at Ochsner Hospital. She was 76 years old. Vivian was born in luling and lived in Norco.

A devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother, she married Dale Dutt on Sept. 13, 1947. She was active with the PTA and school activities, was skilled at making wedding cakes and handi crafts and was a source of great love and support to her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband Dale R. Dutt, daughters Denise Dutt and Tina Tuveson, son-in-law Barry Tuveson, granddaughter Tyler Tuveson, sister Dora Deese Rook and her family and Aunt Jeanette Hebert.

A memorial mass was held on Oct. 15 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Norco. In lieu of flowers, family requests memorial contributions be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Folse

Ernest J. Folse, Sr., native of Raceland and resident of Bayou Gauche, passed away on Oct. 18 at 10:14 p.m. He was 82 years old.

Folse is survived by his wife, Grace Dufrene Folse, sons Ernest Folse, Jr. and Russell Folse, daughters Linda Billiot and Ruth Foster, 11 children and 16 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Columbus and Elvira Melancon Folse, son Ralph Folse, daughter Veronica Folse, brothers Hamilton, Lawrence, Wilson and Simon Folse and one grandchild.

Services were held on Oct. 21 at Community Assembly of God Church in Bayou Gauche, followed by interment at Sunset Cemetery.

Guidry

Dulce Matthews Guidry, a native and resident of Norco, passed away on Oct. 7. She was 70 years old.

Mrs. Guidry was active in many church, civic and community organizations, including the United Way, Girl Scouts of America and Norco Women’s Club. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, James Burlin Guidry, her children Michael M. Guidry and his wife Dawn, Karen G. Deroche and husband Gary, Dianne G. Turner and husband Bill, Patricia G. Magee and husband Sam and Joan G. St. Pierre and husband Adrian, and her grandchildren, Ret Turner, Lonna Bagwell, Timothy Deroche, Andrew and Ryan Magee, Michael, Amanda and Mallory Guidry. She is preceded in death by her parents, Hiram A. Matthews and Mercedes Tregre Matthews.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Oct. 10 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Norco followed by interment at St. Charles Borromeo Mausoleum in Destrehan.

Hickman

Anthony “Tony” Albert Hickman, resident of Luling and native of Hattiesburg, Miss., passed away on Oct. 1. He was 53 years old.

He is survived by his wife, the Rev. Regina Brooks Hickman, father Doug Hickman and stepmother Willa Hickman, son Brooks Hickman, daughters Amanda Portera and Sarah Simoneaux, brother Ted Hickman, sister Rita Dykes, grandchildren Misty, Brandon, Salvadore and Emma Mae Portera and great-granddaughter Lexye Marie Whittington. He is preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Lott Hickman.

Services were held at Golden Meadow Methodist Church on Oct. 7.

Landry

Thelma Simoneaux Landry, resident of Des Allemands, passed away on Oct. 5 at 10:19 pm. She was 83 years old.

Landry is survived by her sons, Gordon Quentin Landry Jr. and Sidney Joseph Landry; her daughters, Kathleen Landry Prentice, Carol Landry Lockhart and Mary Monica Landry Rubin; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Quentin Landry, Sr., parents Sidney Simoneaux Sr. and Lydia Bergeron Simoneaux; brothers Sidney J. Simoneaux Jr. and Leo C. Simoneaux and sisters Irma S. Vial and Doris S. DeJean.

Mass of Christian Burial was held on Oct. 8 at St. Gertrude Cemetery in Des Allemands.

McWilliams

Helen McWilliams passed away on Oct. 10 at the age of 73. She is survived by her husband, Joe McWilliams, daughter Jenean Douglas, sons Rennis and Carlos Douglas, stepchildren Joe McWilliams II, Scott McWilliams and Nicole Ladner, sister Loretta Gaspard, brother Jack Hinton, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was be held on Oct. 12 at 4 p.m. at First Assembly of God Church, Highway 90, Des Allemands, with Pastor Charles G. Clary.

Simon

Pelham Benoit Simon, a native of Vacherie and resident of Grammercy, passed away on Oct. 24 at 12:10 a.m. He was 74 years old.

He is survived by his wife, Lillian Davidson Simon, his brothers Allen, Floyd and Neil Simon, stepchildren Lillie Jantz, Nora Adams, Sallie Beckes, Jonothan and Alvin “Tommy” Noris, seven step grandchildren, six step great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Prudent and Olphida Simon, brothers Prudent Jr., Daniel, Vincent and Lawrence Simon, sisters Vivian Simon, Eunice Abadie, Rose Villnerve and Pearl Attenhoffer.

Services were hled on Oct. 26 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Union. The family wishes to thank Dr. Halina and Dr. Gboloo, nurses and personnel of Ascension Hosptial, St. James Homecare, JoAnn Talley, Jessica Mayeux, Vickey hunter and Bobbie Hicks.
