Flossie Trepagnier Barfield, a retired Licensed Practical Nurse,
died of natural causes at River Regions Hospice on May 21. She was
75.
Wife of the late E.V. Barfield. Beloved mother of Tab M. Trepagnier,
Tammy B. Dufresne, and Michael J. Barfield. Sister of Barbara T.
Moody, Roy A. Trepagnier, and Garland Trepagnier. She was the daughter
of the late Mr. and Mrs. Paul E. Trepagnier. She is also survived
by a grandson, Brandon; a niece, Lisa Lloyd; and a nephew, Keith
Trepagnier. She was a native and resident of Norco.
Visitation was held on May 26 from 8:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
at Alexander Funeral Home in Norco. A Funeral Mass followed at the
Sacred Heart Church in Norco at 11 a.m. The interment was at the
St. Charles Borromeo Cemetary.

Jessie Barney Sr., a retired employee of the Destrehan grain elevator,
died on May 4 of complications from emphysema at his home. He was
68 years old.
Mr. Barney was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. He attended
Bethune High School in Norco. Survivors include four sons, Jessie
Barney Jr., Otis and Everett Barney, and Brian Augullard; five daughters,
Tonia Anderson, DeShonne Barney, Carol Lynn King, and Paula and
Kathy Barney; two brothers, James and David Butler; two sisters,
Katie Grandberry and Cheryl Butler; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A funeral was held on May 11 at D.W. Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington
Ave.

Aaron Joseph “Bird” Berthelot, a native of Lutcher
and resident of Gramercy, died on May 4. He was 21 years old.
Son of Kenneth “Pedro” and Delores “Dee” Leonard Berthelot, Gramercy.
Grandson of paternal grandparents Rose M. Berthelot and the late
Dalton Berthelot and maternal grandparents Genevieve T. Leonard
and the late Norman Leonard. Brother and brother-in-law of Alan
and Danielle Berthelot, Jason and Tara Berthelot and Ryan Berthelot
and fiance Becky Morgan, all of Gramercy. Uncle of Colin, Austin
and Megan. Also survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was a member of the Gramercy Volunteer Fire Department, Sacred
Heart Catholic Church and was a student at the ABC School in Baton
Rouge.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on May 7 at Sacred Heart Catholic
Church in Gramercy.

James Daniel “J.D.” Blaylock, a native of Ellisville,
Ark. and resident of Luling, died on May 1. He was 85 years old.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Miles Blaylock,
sons Martin Blaylock and wife Carmen and Kenny Blaylock, grandson
James Daniel Blaylock, brother Charles Blaylock and sister Alma
Smead. He is preceded in death by his parents, John Oscar Blaylock
and Polly Butler Blaylock, brothers Eugene and O’Neil Blaylock and
sisters Christine Gardner and Maggie Smead.
Mr. Blaylock was a Deacon at First Baptist
Church of Luling, a member of the Masonic Lodge of El Dorado and
retired from Monsanto after 34 years of service.
Religious services were held on May 4. at
First Baptist Church of Luling.

Marie-Louise Landeche Bourgeois, a homemaker,
died on May 21 from complications from Parkinson’s Disease. She
was 78.
She was the beloved wife of Joseph I. “Knock A Bout” Bourgeois.She
is also survived by sons: Joseph I. Jr., Carl, Deryle, Terry, Keith,
Wayne, and David Bourgeois; daughters: Linda Boudreaux, Elaine Tallman,
Debbie Page, and Sharon Metrejean; three sisters: Lorraine Rodriguez,
Anna Mae Melancon, and Rita Hymel; 8 brothers: Roy, Alvin, George,
Claude Roger, Wesley, Harold and Henry III Landeche; 32 grandchildren
and 6 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by parents:
Henry J. and Pauline Lousteau Landeche; brother, Floyd Landeche;
and two grandchildren: David Ledet and Erica L. Metrejean.
She was the Valedictorian during high school.
Mass of Christian Burial was May 24 at St. Anthony Catholic Church
in Luling. Entombment in St. Charles Mausoleum in Luling. H.C. Alexander
Funeral Home of Norco was in charge of arrangements.

Jason Louis Breaux died May 10 of a heart attack
at Jefferson Healthcare Center. He was 32.
Mr. Breaux was born in New Orleans and lived in Jefferson for
most of his life.
Survivors include a son, Jason Louis Breaux Jr. of Springhill,
Fla.; a daughter, Kierstyn Bethany Breaux of Springhill; his father,
Thaddeus Breaux Jr.; his mother, Susan Breaux; a brother, Thaddeus
Breaux III of Destrehan; a sister, Kimala Desena of Nevada City,
Calif.; and his grandfather, Louis A. Keller.
A memorial service will be held June 11 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist
Church of Kenner, 1400 Williams Blvd., Kenner. Visitation will begin
at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be private. Professional Funeral Services
is in charge of arrangements.

Willie "Wild Willie-Manny" Burks Jr.,May 27 of an aneurysm at Ochsner
Foundation Hospital. He was 65.
Mr. Burks was born in New Orleans and lived in New Sarpy.
Survivors include his wife, Pamala Givens Burks; three sons, Lucky
Terrell Givens, Calvin Berry and Leo Jackson; three daughters, Rosalind
Brooks, Hope Mero and Latasha Givens; five brothers, Edward, Roger,
Barry, Shandrof and Barney Burks; four sisters, Laura Thomas, Katie
Fisher, Betty Burks and Gertrude Thompson; seven grandchildren;
three great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
A funeral was held on Saturday. Burial in New Sarpy Cemetery.

Hollis “Jigger” Bynum Jr. died on May 23. He
was 57.
He was a native of New Orleans and a resident of Bayou Gauche.
He is survived by his wife, Cynthia Blades Bynum; son, Duston
J. Bynum; 3 daughters, Elizabeth Benson, Holly Kirk, and Maggie
Bynum; and 4 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents
Hollis Bynum Sr. and Verda Lee Byrd Bynum Raines and his step father,
C.M. Raines.
He was the past President of the Live Oak Fire Department, and
a member of theBayou Gauche Fire Department.
Visitation took place at 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Falgout Funeral
Home in Raceland. A religious service followed at Falgout Funeral
Home at 1 p.m.
Arrangements were under the direction of Falgout Funeral Homes
of Raceland.

Lacy Crow Jr., a roofer, died May 11 of complications
from diabetes at St. Charles General Hospital. He was 44.
Mr. Crow was born in Metairie and lived in Norco for the past
25 years. Survivors include his father, Lacy Crow Sr.; his mother,
Barbara Morales Crow; and two sisters, Lisa Louque and Melissa Feitas.
A Mass was said on May 20 at 2 p.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic
Church, 401 Spruce St., Norco. Burial was private. Alexander Funeral
Home was in charge of arrangements.

Orion “O” Ernst died May 27. He was 42 years old.
He was the beloved son of Frank and Dorothy Wedemeier Ernst, Jr.
He was the husband of Lila T. Ernst and the step-father of Monica
Williams. Mr. Ernst is also survived by five grandchildren; brother,
Kevin Ernst; two sisters, Darla E. McBroom and Dana E. Hull of Thibodeaux;
two brother-in-laws, Randy McBroom and George Hull; sister-in-law,
Missy Ernst; six nieces and nephews, Meghan McBroom, Steven Ernst,
Dr. Shelley Haydel, Susan Haydel, Julianne Courtney, and Hayden
Hull. He is also survived by aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.
He was a native and resident of Luling. He was a Health Physics
Tech II employed by Entergy/Waterford 3 for 16 years.
Services were held on Thursday. Flowers may be sent, but in lieu
of flowers, donations may be sent to the Victory Junction Gang Camp,
a medical camp for children and their families living with chronic

Lillian Hebert Folse died May 22. She was 74 years old. She was
a native of Raceland and a resident of Des Allemands. She was a
parishioner of St. Gertrude Church in Des Allemands.
She is survived by her sister, Rita Autin, and many nieces and
nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Joseph Folse;
her parents, Justilien and Beulah Toups Hebert; 3 brothers, Albert,
Clifton, and Nolan Hebert.
Visitation was on May 24 from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at St. Gertrude
Catholic Church in Des Allemands. Mass of Christian Burial was on
May 24 at 11 a.m. at St. Gertrude Catholic Church in Des Allemands.
Interment in St. Gertrude’s Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, masses

James “Jimmy” Ford, a resident of Baton Rouge and a native of Raceland,
died on May 9. He was 80 years old.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Audrey Gautreaux
Ford; two sons Richard A. Ford and Thomas J. Ford and his wife Pearly
all of Baton Rouge; grandson Christopher Ford and wife Becky; three
granddaughters, Amanda Ellis and husband John, Mindy Ford and Madeline
Ford; great grandchildren Christopher, Jr. and Holly Ford; Cole,
Connor and Carson Ellis; five sisters, Myrtle Tastet, Ada Colonge,
Mary Ann Vanacor, all of Des Allemands, Marion Blanchard of Bridge
City, and Catherine Barrios of Raceland, La; two brothers, Bill
Ford of Houma, and Richard Ford of Bridge City. He was preceded
in death by his parents William and Lydia Bergeron Ford; one sister
Shirley Ford; and five brothers William, Jr., Earl, Patrick, Paul,
and Douglas Ford; two grandsons Alexander and Blake Ford.
James Ford was a Technical Sergeant in the U.S. Army in WWII.
A DAV, a recipient of the Purple Heart from the Battle of the Bulge,
a Bronze Leader of the Commanders' Club. Retired member of Local
198, member of the VFW, Mason 32nd Degree and a Shriner. He was
a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, avid LSU
fan, animal lover and friend who will be deeply missed by all. All
veterans are invited to military service.
Funeral services were held on May 13 at Baker Funeral Home in
Baker.

Vivian Edith Gaubert, a native and resident of
Luling, died on May 14. She was 87 years old.
She is survived by her brothers, Carroll Gaubert and wife Lillie
and Richard Gaubert and wife Dianne, sisters Mabel Gaubert, Alma
Gaubert and Enid Gaubert Holibaugh, and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Sylvester and Veronica
Naquin Gaubert, brothers Edward, Wallace, Sylvester “S.J.”, Ernest
“Sonny” and Raymond Gaubert and sisters Elise Gaubert Falgout, Earline
Gaubert and Mildred Gaubert.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on May 17 at St. Anthony Catholic
Church in Luling.

Adair Lawton Heard died May 29 at her home. She was 88.
Mrs. Heard was born in New Orleans and lived in Destrehan.
Survivors include a son, Zachary T. Heard III of Mandeville; three
daughters, Denise H. Stine of Pensacola, Barbara Wright and Adair
H. Musacchia; two brothers, Raymond and William Lawton; two sisters,
Eunice Walsdorf and Yvone Melancon; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
A Mass was said Thursday.

Charlie T. Johnson Sr., died May 24 at Kenner
Regional Medical Center. He was 92.
Mr. Johnson was born in Luling and lived in River Ridge for the
past 50 years. He was an Army staff sergeant with Company L 365th
Infantry during World War II and was awarded the Victory Medal,
the ATO Medal and the EAMETO Medal. He was a member of Oakland Baptist
Church, Nehemiah Masonic Lodge No. 72 and American Legion Post No.
598. He had been a driver for the Jefferson Council on Aging for
13 years.
Survivors include his wife, John A. Johnson; two sons, Charlie
T. Johnson Jr. and Alfred Johnson Sr.; three daughters, Roslind
Lattier, Charlene Carroll and Marilyn J. Johnson; a stepson, Arthur
B. Jackson Jr.; a stepdaughter, Mary S. Jackson; three brothers,
Joseph, Anthony and Claude Eugene; four daughters, Virginia Bujol,
Dorothy Harris, Lorita Jenkins and Estelle Bush; 29 grandchildren;
and 16 great-grandchildren.
A funeral was held Friday Dismissal was Saturday. Burial in Jefferson
Memorial Gardens. Richardson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mollie Christine Klafert died May 27 of renal cancer at Memorial
Medical Center. She was 70.
Mrs. Klafert was born in Stanton, Ind., and lived in New Orleans
for the past 24 years.
Survivors include four sons, Hershel Ray Klafert of Heidelberg,
Germany, Curtis Klafert of Norco and Ralph and Stuart Kent Klafert;
three daughters, Mamy Douglas of Piperton, Tenn., Mary Klafert of
Kenner and Lenore Lynn Barquero of Metairie; five grandchildren;
and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Thursday.

Larousse of New Iberia, sister of Zephyrain Jr., Raoul, Wallace

DeCampo of Gretna, the late Melvin Vicknair, Lillian Keating and

was 78 years old.
She is the daughter of the late Albert Poche Sr. and Emelie Battard
and adopted daughter of the late Remy J. Poche and Antoinette Battard
Poche. She is the beloved wife of Joseph Harry LeBoeuf of Lutcher.
She is the mother and mother-in-law of Chris and Maureen LeBoeuf
of Lutcher and Emelie (Tootsie) and Tom Larsen of Pontchatoula.
She is the sister of Marie Louise Deslatte of Norco, and the late
Albert Poche, Jr., Raymond Poche, Jules Poche, Clarence Poche, Amy
P. Raffray, Julie P. Surmik, Eleanor P. Miller, and Odette P. Kilburn.
She is the grandmother of Christopher LeBoeuf of Thibodeaux, Hollie
Zeringue of Gramercy, Stacey Roussel of Houston, TX, and Brett Larsen
of Monroe. She is the great-grandmother of Caleb Zeringue, Emelie
and Jessie Clare Roussel, Phoebe and Benjamin LeBoeuf and Remy Larsen.
She was the Past Auxiliary President of the East St. James VFW
Post 5852, member of the St. Ann Altar Society, and AARP, retired
employee of the News Examiner.

of the late Valery (Hap) Lowry, she is survived by sons Michael

Allen Lowry; grandchildren Trina, Shelly, Jason, Dustin and Vali;
great-grandchildren Savanna, Jordyn, Lauren and Brock, and siblings
Lucy Ayme, Delores Geier and Marian Brady. She is preceded in death
by her parents, Lucille and Miller Keller, brother Ivan Keller and
one granddaughter.

Nell Joseph Madere, a lifelong resident of Montz, died Monday.
He was 57 years old.
He is the beloved husband of Sandra Guillory Madere and the loving
father of Lisa Madere Stanley and the late Kyle Stanley, Dennis
and Kim Madere Dantin, Neal, Kelly Madere Richard and Erin Jessica
Madere. He is the son of the late Rita and Clement Madere Jr. He
is the brother of Elsie Madere, Jane Roussel, Gail Clement, and
Bryan, Keith, and Michael Madere and the late Marilyn Brady. He
is also survived by grandchildren Noah Stanley, Elisabeth, Madeline,
Jordan and Gabriel Richard, Justin and Hannah Dantin.
He is a retired employee of Shell Motiva.

LaPlace on May 19.

Sr., Polly Mire Pepitone and Wayne, Marcia Mire Stromeyer and Roger
Sr. and Jules Edward Mire and companion Earl Barrow, Jr., beloved
dogs Dino and Pedro, sister of Delores LeBlanc, Patricia Fernandez,
Gail Cambre, Josie Moreau, Elodie Burguieres and the late Peggy
Baudoin. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Wilmer Louis "Sonny Boy" Mizell died May 26 of a heart attack at
his home. He was 69.
Mr. Mizell was born in New Orleans and lived in Destrehan for
the past four years. He attended Franklin High School. He was a
former driver for Charlie Spahr. He was an Air Force veteran of
the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Rae Mizell; four sons, David
Wayne Mizell, Alan Craig Mizell, Robert Sr. and Jamison "Jamie"
Mizell; three daughters, Susan Patrice Mizell, Donna Marie Hale
and Lisa Elaine Barry; three brothers, Wayne, Kenneth and Jimmy
Mizell; two sisters, Bonnie Morris and Edna Delaughter; 17 grandchildren;
and 12 great-grandchildren.

Neotha "Mama Dota" Johnson Norris, a homemaker, died Tuesday at
River Region Hospice House. She was 91.
Mrs. Norris was born in Sellers and lived in New Sarpy. She attended
McDonald 35 School in New Orleans. Survivors include two daughters,
Delores Price and Joyce Wilderson, both of New Sarpy; a brother,
Lawrence Johnson of New Sarpy; three sisters, Hattie Parquet, Viola
"Cootie" Wilson and Beatrice Cherie of New Orleans; five grandchildren;
and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral was held on May 21 at St. Matthew's Baptist Church in
New Sarpy.

Yvonne Duffy Senia died May 26 of congestive heart failure at East
Jefferson General Hospital. She was 73.
Mrs. Senia was born in Greenfield, Mo., and lived in Destrehan
for the past 35 years.

and Danny Cox and Robin Cole; a daughter, Vickie Barthel; a stepdaughter,
Rhonda Watson; a brother, Max Duffy; two sisters, Phyllis Hunt and
Kay Meyers; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Dennis J. St. Amant Jr., a retired lieutenant
with the St. Charles Parish sheriff’s office, died Sunday of a heart
attack. He was 70.
Mr. St. Amant was a lifelong resident of Luling.
He was the husband of the late Catherine Lagattuta St. Amant. Survivors
include two sons, Michael A. St. Amant and Dennis J. St. Amant III;
five daughters, Cathy S. Jones, Susette S. Higgins, Wendy S. Gomes,
Yvette S. Israel and Sheila S. Jacobs; two sisters, Mary S. Norfleet
and Margaret S. Fiegenschue; 14 grandchildren; and numerous nieces
and nephews. A Mass was held on May 11 at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary
Catholic Church, 1 Rectory Lane in Hahnville.

Norman G. Tamburello died on May 26.

Victor Tamburello; sisters, Mary T. St. Martin, Lena T. Smagacz,

Lena Mae Alleman Varvaro of Destrehan died on May 17.
She was born on September 8, 1932 in White Castle and lived in
Destrehan most of her life. Mrs. Varvaro was a homemaker and involved
in politics for over 50 years.
She was the beloved wife of the late Raymond (Cider) Varvaro,
Sr. Loving mother of Ray and Rita Varvaro. Daughter of the late
Albert and Lucille Millet Alleman. Sister of Lois Naquin, Albert
Alleman Jr., and the late Evans Alleman, Audrey Alleman, and Marie
Lauve. Grandmother of Missy Rome, Craig and Kenny Perrier, Derek,
Michelle, and Kristin Varvaro. Also survived by beloved friend,
Pam Morrissey who helped her in good times and sickness.
Relatives and friends of the family were invited to attend the
visitation at H.C. Alexander Funeral Home of Norco on May 20 from
9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial took place at 12
noon at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Destrehan. Interment

Pastor Echete Washington Sr., pastor of Metropolitan
Church of God in Christ, died May 12 of a heart attack at Life Care
Hospital. He was 46. Pastor Washington was born in New Orleans and
lived in St. Rose before moving to New Orleans. He graduated from
Destrehan High School. He was a member of Warriors for Christ Men's
Outreach and had worked for U Park Parking Garage.
Survivors include his wife, Qwendolyn Wilson
Washington; two sons, Ezra Washington and Echete Washington Jr.;
three daughters, Myoshi Robinson, Shekener Obianwu and Shamyar Washington;
three brothers, Mark and Joseph Washington Jr., and Jason Farlough;
two sisters, Jennifer Keeling and Elita Washington; a grandfather,
Charles Wiggs; and eight grandchildren.
A funeral was held on May 21 at Prayer Tower
Church of God in Christ, followed by burial at Mount Olivet Cemetery.

St. Charles Grain Elevator in Destrehan, died May 12 at his home.
He was 80.
Mr. Williams was born in New Orleans and lived
in New Sarpy for 55 years. He graduated from Lowery Training School
in Donaldsonville and attended Leland College in Baker. He was a
member of St. Matthew Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Rita Williams;
a son, Kenneth Williams; three daughters, Cheryl Cloudet, Gail Baudy
and Karen Hawthorne; a brother, Leroy Williams; a sister, Octavia
Johnson; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A funeral was held on May 19 at St. Matthew's
Baptist Church, in New Sarpy, followed by burial
at St. Charles Borromeo Mausoleum.

Kylyn Reneé Woods died May 20 at Charity Hospital
of injuries suffered in a hit-and-run. She was 4.
Kylyn was born in Metairie and lived in Luling.
She attended P.K. Boutte Christian Academy, where she was on the
honor roll. She also received the Phonics Award, the Numbers Award,
the Music Appreciation Award, the Physical Education Appreciation
Award and the Personal Respecting Award.
Survivors include her father, Edmond R. Woods;
her mother, Hope Reneé Woods her grandparents, Debbie and Tom Clark
and Edmond and Connie Woods; and her great-grandfather, Chuck Clark.
A Mass was said May 25 at 11 a.m. at St. Charles
Borromeo Catholic Church, 13396 River Road, Destrehan. Visitation
began at 10 a.m. Burial took place at All Saints Mausoleum. Lake
Lawn Metairie Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
