Archuleta Christopher Paul Archuleta, a machinist at Hydril Co., died Wednesday, March 30th of a gunshot wound in the 1000 block of Central Avenue in Westwego. He was 29 years old. Chris was born in Metairie and lived in Luling for the past 29 years. He graduated from Hahnville High School in 1993. He worked for Hydril Co. for more than eight years. He served in the Army for more than two years. Survivors include his two sons, Collin Michael Archuleta and Cody Matthew Archuleta. His father, H.M. "Mike" Archuleta; his mother, Delores Aliff Archuleta; a brother, Michael J. Archuleta; a sister, Sandra A. David; and his grandparents, Ernie and Rose Vigil and Gisela and Keith Stine. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. A memorial service was held Tuesday, April 5 at Mothe Funeral Home in Marrero.
Bourg

Florestine Gassen Bourg, a native and resident of Luling, died on March 3. She was 87 years old.

She is survived by her son, Lionel Bourg Sr., brothers Sidney Gassen Sr. and John Gasses, sisters Ida Lorio and Violet Vieth, and three grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lionel Bourg, parents John Baptist Gassen and Evelina Jordan Gassen and sisters Emma Boudreaux, Anna Rousselle, Evelina Falgout and Stella Wilson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on March 7 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Luling, followed by burial at Holy Rosary Cemetery in Taft.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations for masses.

Brock

Jerry L. Brock Jr. died on March 25. He was 30 years old. He was the beloved father of Melody Dominica Brock and Anthony Joseph Brock, son of Mary Robeau Gros, James E. Gros Jr. and Jerry L. Brock Sr., stepbrother of James Gabrial Gros, grandson of Elaine Gros and Lilian Brock and uncle of Gabrial Ashton Gros. He is also survived by aunts, uncles and cousins. He was a native of Metaire and a resident of Destrehan for the last 10 years.

A Funeral Mass was held on March 30, follwed by interment at Jefferson Memorial Gardens in St. Rose. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Mary Gros are preferred.

Champagne

Alfred Pierre Champagne died on March 14. He was 69 years old. Beloved husband of Betty Matherne Champagne, father of Alfred Anthony Champagne, Denise C. (Wayne) Guedry, Debra C. (Dennis) Rankin and Melanie M. Champagne, Pepere of Brad Champagne, Cody Champagne, Corey Guedry, Ryan Guedry, Dennis Rankin Jr. and Danielle Rankin, brother of Nathan Champagne, Wayne Champagne and the late Errol Champagne, son of the late Alfred Pierre Champagne and the late Myrthee Vicnair Champagne.

Alfred was a retired educator of the St. Charles Parish School System after 37 years of service. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2409, a parishoner of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Luling, a former member of the board of directors for the German Coast Federal Credit Union and a former member of the United Way Toy and Gift Fund.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on March 17 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Luling, followed by entombment in St. Charles Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, masses are preferred.

Colon

Shirley Deroche Colon died on March 28. She was 92 years old.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Russell Colon, adoptive parents Louis and Edna Rome, birth parents Theodore and Bertha Savoie Deroche, brothers Roland, Sheffard and Berde Deroche and half-brother J.W. Deroche. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Royce and Ann Colon, daughter and son-in-law Sheila and Noe Legaux, granddaughters and their husbands: Mark and Lisa Folse, Nicole and Mike Yeatman and Ashley and Rodney Broschinsky, half-brothers Roy, Nolan and Arand Deroche and great-grandchildren Whitney, Mark and Michael, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Norco on March 30 followed by interment at St. Joseph Mausoleum in Paulina. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to Canon Hospice, c/o the Akula Foundation, P.O. Box 850715, New Orleans, LA 70185-0725.

Dill

Anna Laura Barthel Dill, age 90, died on March 16. She is survived by her three children, Janet Shafer of St. Petersburg, Fla., Connie Kenny of Atlanta and David Dill III of La Place, their spouses Paul, Wallace and Lynne, 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, David, and her grandson, David Dill IV. She was a resident of Norco for 68 years and a retired St. Charles Parish school teacher.

A Funeral Mass was held on March 19 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Those wishing to make contributions in her memory are asked to donate to the St. Charles Council on Aging, Inc., 628 Pine St., Suite A., Hahnville, LA 70057.

Dominique

Carla Ann Dominique, a native and resident of Lockport, died on March 15. She was 37 years old.

She is survived by her parents, Felix and Elaine LeBlanc Dominique, sons Rodney Dufrene and Benjamin Bergeron and brother Chad Dominique. She is preceded in death by her brother, Troy Dominique.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at Holy Savior Cemetery in Lockport on March 22.

Folse

Lloyd Joseph Folse, senior technician with Monsanto Chemical Co., died on March 13 of cancer at his home. He was 60 years old.

Mr. Folse was born in Taft, lived in Marrero and then lived in Luling for the past 32 years. He was an Air Force Veteran.

He was beloved husband of Joan Haas Folse, father of Stacie Lynne Folse Keller, father-in-law of Michael Dale Keller, son of O’Neil Folse, Sr. and Sophie Kliebert Folse Clardy, brother of Neil (Amy) Folse, Jerry (Renelle) Role, Carl (Carol) Folse and the late O’Neil Folse Jr., son-in-law of the late John and Annette Haas, brother-in-law of Gerald and Doris Louve, Whitney and Dolores Gonzales, Alvin and Verline Haas, Russell and Juanita Haas Elaine and Kenneth Eckel Sr. of League City, Texas, and the late John H. Haas Jr. He is also survived by granddog Candie and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass was held at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Destrehan on March 16, followed by interment at McDonogh Cemetery in Gretna.

Gueffier

Anna M. Gueffier, a native and resident of Des Allemands, passed away on March 17. She was 98 years old.

She is survived by her sisters, Cerene “Fifi” Matherne and Gladys Schaubbhut. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jean “Frenchy” Gueffier, parents Charles Matherne Sr. and Marie Touchard Matherne, brothers John, Charles Jr. and Don Matherne and sisters Cecile Schaubbhut, Blanche Lejeune and Lucille Lejeune.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on March 22 at St. Gertrude Catholic Church in Des Allemands, followed by burial in St. Gertrude Cemetery.

Hymel

Glenn J. Hymel, beloved husband and father, died on March 30 at 5:30 a.m. at his home. He was 60 years old.

A lifelong resident of St. Charles Parish, Mr. Hymel was employed at Shell Oil Company and was a former co-owner of Harold’s Service Center. As a volunteer, he coached baseball and softball for over 10 years.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Kathryn Murray Hymel, mother Pearl Roussell Hymel, brothers Randall and Joel Hymel, sister Cheryl Parellada, children Kristine Henriques, Denise Deroche, Stephanie Ledet, Sean Hymel, Samantha Guillory and Courtney Hymel. He is also survived by his sons-in-law, Sean Henriques, Michael Deroche Sr., Clay Ledet Sr., Greg Guillory and Brett Babin, and daughter-in-law Kristi Matherne Hymel, and devoted grandchildren Bobby and Bailey Henriques, Michael Jr., Dillon and Madison Deroche, Clay Ledet Jr., Seth and Ellie Hymel, Nathan and Rile Guillory. He is preceded in death by his father, Harold Hymel.

A Funeral Mass was held on April 2 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Destrehan, followed by interment in St. Charles Borromeo Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, Masses are preferred.

Joseph

Bemis “Couchie” Joseph, a native of Taft and a resident of Lucy, died on March 9. He was 97 years old.

He is survived by his sister, Alberta Santiago, eight grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Georgiana Martin, parents Adam Joseph and Marie Louise Johnson Joseph, son Samuel Rudolph Joseph Sr., 14 brothers and three sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. John Catholic Church in Edgard on March 18.

Lowry

George Louis Lowry, age 88, died on March 5. He was born in Lutcher and served in the U.S. Air Force for 32 years. A veteran of World War II and Vietnam, he was a master sergeant, a member of American Legion Post 361 and St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church.

Husband of Dorothy Clement Lowry, father and father-in-law of George and Debbie Lowry, Donna Kelly, Gary and Linda Lowry, James and Paula Lowry, David and Jeanne Lowry, Mary Kessler, Anne Billings and Tim and Vanessa Lowry. He had 24 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Brothers: Jefferson and Richard Lowry. Sister: Marie Orillion. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Corine Lowry, brothers and sisters Kathleen, edward, Valery and Frank Lowry and Marguerite Erra and Corinne Abreo.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on March 8 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Destrehan followed by entombment at St. Charles Borromeo Mausoleum.

Maronge

Alma Raiford Maronge, a native of Baton Rouge and resident of New Orleans for 53 years and Birmingham, Ala. for four years, died on March 28. She was 76 years old.

A graduate of Baton Rouge High, she was a member of the Central Baptist Church in New Orleans, Fellowship Bible Church in Metairie and Dufort Community Bible Church in Alabama.

She is preceded in death by her husband, George P. Baronge Sr. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Maronge Forsag of Luling, sons Rev. George P. Maronge Jr. of Birmingham and Michael Raiford Maronge of Baton Rouge, brother Dr. James B. Raiford of Green Cove Springs, Fla., nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held at Bible Center Church in Luling on April 2 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Gideons International, P.O Box 822, LaPlace, LA 70069.

Robert

Tina (Chong) Robert, a native of Seol, Korea and resident of Ama for the past 28 years, died on March 14. She was 62 years old.

The beloved wife of Donald J. Robert, stepmother of Chris A., Deano J., Brent T. and Jassen P. Robert, mother-in-law of Thereze Z. Robert, grandmother of Brent T. Robert Jr., Nicholas A. Robert, Eric Robert, Michelle Robert and the late Jessie Robert, great-grandmother of Haley Robert, Hannah Robert and Tristan Tew.

Visitation was held on March 16 at Mothe Funeral Homes in Harvey. Interment will be held at a later date.

Robichaux

Roy “Phil” Robichaux Jr., a resident of Raceland, died on March 24. He was 53 years old.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Thibodaux Robichaux, son Chad P. Robichaux, daughter Stephanie Robichaux Champagne and sister Judy Robichaux Plaisance. He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy P. Robichaux Sr. and Pearl Talbot Robichaux.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on March 29 at St. Hilary of Poitiers in Mathew, followed by burial at St. Mary Cemetery in Raceland.

Smith

Donyce Jackson Smith passed away on March 28 at River Parish Hospital from complications due to heart failure.

Born on Jan. 18, 1927, she was a devoted homemaker and a lifelong resident and community participant in Norco, where she will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Henry A. Smith, sons Glen D. Smith and wife Marilyn of LaPlace and Gary L. Smith Sr. and wife Pam of Norco, grandchildren Gary Smith Jr. and wife Deirdre, Rebecca Smith of Norco and Madison Smith of LaPlace, and brother John K. Jackson, formerly of Norco. She is preceded in death by her son, Danny, and brother, Charles Jackson.

Services were held on March 30 at Sacred Heart Church in Norco. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Sacred Heart Norco Senior Center, 425 Spruce St., Norco, 70079.
