prisoners were moved into the new Nelson Coleman St. Charles Parish
Correctional Center in Killona. The prison is capable of accommodating
630 prisoners, though only 140 are currently housed there.

native still missing after Pentagon attack
Robert Hymel, a former resident
of Norco, is listed as one of several unaccounted for people who were
working in the area of the Pentagon that was attacked Tuesday. Hymel
is a retired Lieutenant Colonel of the Air Force. |

Council
approves pump station upgrade
The St. Charles Parish Council
returned to business Monday evening with American flags marching around
their chambers and a louder-than usual recitation of the Pledge of
Allegiance. Then, before moving on to the business of the parish,
the council put forth a decree condemning the terrorist actions of
Sept. 11 and proclaimed Sept. 23 to be “New York and Washington, D.C.
Day in St. Charles Parish.” |

America. Signs have been hastily painted and erected. The Luling Volunteer
Fire Department is proclaiming “We will not perish!” and in front

Citizens intend to sue Orion
On Thursday, the Concerned
Citizens of New Sarpy (CCNS) announced that they had sent a notice
of intent to sue to Orion Refinery in Norco. The action is a response

four decades. Beginning with her own children, then her grandchildren
and now with other people’s children, the work done by Mary “Betty”
Braun of Des Allemands has made her a nominee for the 2001 Blue Cross/Blue

and zoning rejects fire station
At an emotionally charged
meeting Thursday night, the Planning and Zoning Commission voted 5-1
against the director’s recommendation to allow the resubdivision of
the lot on the corner of Lafayette and Willowridge Boulevard for use
as a fire station. |

Jones
sentenced on alligator charges
An Avondale man has been
sentenced in St. Charles Parish for several alligator violations stemming
from a Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Enforcement
Division covert operation in 2000. Thomas Jones Jr., 49, pleaded guilty
on Aug. 21 to hunting alligators without a license, hunting alligators
in closed season and hunting alligators during illegal hours.

The thought of a Columbine
massacre taking place at Destrehan or Hahnville High School is something
that is unpleasant to even think about. However, for the sake of being
prepared, the principals of both high schools as well as several parish

vetoes traffic analysis requirement

Laque has vetoed a resolution by the St. Charles Parish Council to
require a traffic impact analysis for certain construction developments
