A former St. Charles Parish
Sheriff’s Deputy is under arrest facing charges of malfeasance in
office and extortion after a LaPlace woman accused him of asking her
to pose for lewd photographs in exchange for leniency on a DWI arrest.

Parish
receives art grant
The Houma-Terrebone Arts
and Humanities Council through the Louisiana Decentralized Arts Funding
Program has granted $155,255 to non-profit organizations in the parishes
of Assumption, Lafourche, St. Charles, St. James, St. John the Baptist
and Terrebone to support art and cultural programs for the year 2001-2002.
The program funds open-to-the-public art projects occuring between
October 1, 2001 and September 30, 2002. |

The Concerned Citizens of
Norco staged protests Friday and Saturday against the Shell and Orion
plants on the east bank of the parish, claiming the organizations
are trying to buy out property at too low a cost. |

and Mike LaRosa, a firefighter from Brooklyn, NY, were pretty slim.

Parish,
school board form partnership
At Thursday night’s Planning
and Zoning Meeting, a development agreement was tentatively approved
between the parish, the school board, and Ashton Plantation Estates,
LLC. authorizing the donation of 19 acres from the developer to the
parish to be used for future school and recreational facilities. The
land is located at the site of the Ashton development which planners
have hailed as a “progressive” neighborhood which would bring thousands
of new residents to the parish. |

resident pushes for assisted living center in parish
“We
need one of these in St. Charles,” said Bob Hickman, as he visited
an assisted living center in his wife’s hometown of Thomason, Georgia.
The facility the Luling resident was referring to was an old school
building which had recently been renovated into a retirement community
for senior citizens of the area.

The
state legislature has passed a resolution honoring former St. Charles
Parish resident Lt. Col. Robert J. Hymel, who was killed in the Sept.
11 attack on the Pentagon.

Lakewood Elementary teacher Hettie Averite got a surprise from students
