At Wednesday night’s meeting
of the school board, members ratified that Phase I of St. Rose K-5
is substantially completed. St. Rose is the first new school to be

Mardi Gras fans at the Luling
and Des Allemands parades may have to celebrate a little differently
this year. The Parish Council Monday night passed an ordinance banning
the use of silly string and laser pointers along parade routes.

coronated king and queen of Des Allemands
Wilton
and Elaine Hue were recently chosen as King and Queen of this year’s
Des Allemands Parade. The coronation took place at the parade carnival
ball held Feb. 1 at the Father Mac Community Center. Former royalty
Louise and Johnny Schaubhut were on hand to pass on the crowns.

Escaped
inmates re-captured
Three inmates who escaped
from prison in Killona Monday evening were captured Tuesday morning
in Edgard.
Police say Raymond King, 27, Calvin Couvillion, 22, and Lamont Gross,
30, were accounted for at the beginning of the 5 p.m. meal, but had
disappeared by the 10 p.m. roll call. The three men were in the maximum
security wing of the Nelson Coleman Correctional Center in Killona. |

that is still far too common in our society -- children who come to
school with unexplained bruises, wives and mothers who can’t get out
of a bad situation and keep their children in harm’s way with them.

to go for help with the opening of the Madere Children’s Advocacy

withdrawn for solid waste pick-up station
An application to rezone
29 acres of wetlands south of Hwy 90 in Luling and allow a pick-up
station for municipal solid waste was withdrawn before a meeting of
the St. Charles Planning and Zoning Commission Thursday night. The
applicant, BFI Waste Services of Metairie, sent a fax to the P&Z
Wednesday stating their desire to withdraw the application.

at Orion injures two, shuts down west side of plant
A fire at the Orion refinery
in New Sarpy Wednesday injured two people and shut down half the plant,
while sending a column of smoke into the air that blew over homes
