For the eleventh year, St. Charles Parish Hospital will join the Krewes of Lul and Des Allemands to collect peanut butter for social concerns during the parade.

On Sunday, members of the First Assembly of God Church in Des Allemands will say farewell to Pastor Charles G. Clary and his wife Bertha. Clary has been pastor at the church since Aug. 1990 when he transferred from West Monroe.

Raymond King, 25, of Luling, plead guilty last week to simple escape and forcible rape of a juvenile.
Feb. 22, 2003 St. Rose K-5 substantially complete
At Wednesday night’s meeting of the school board, members ratified that Phase I of St. Rose K-5 is substantially completed. St. Rose is the first new school to be constructed in the parish in ten years and the largest of the bond issue projects passed by voters in Oct. 2001.

Wilton and Elaine Hue were recently chosen as King and Queen of this year’s Des Allemands Parade. The coronation took place at the parade carnival ball held Feb. 1 at the Father Mac Community Center. Former royalty Louise and Johnny Schaubhut were on hand to pass on the crowns.
Feb. 12, 2003 Escaped inmates re-captured
Three inmates who escaped from prison in Killona Monday evening were captured Tuesday morning in Edgard. Police say Raymond King, 27, Calvin Couvillion, 22, and Lamont Gross, 30, were accounted for at the beginning of the 5 p.m. meal, but had disappeared by the 10 p.m. roll call. The three men were in the maximum security wing of the Nelson Coleman Correctional Center in Killona.
Feb. 12, 2003 Madere Children's Advocacy Center opens in Luling
Unfortunately, it is a scene that is still far too common in our society -- children who come to school with unexplained bruises, wives and mothers who can’t get out of a bad situation and keep their children in harm’s way with them. But in St. Charles Parish people in this situation have somewhere to go for help with the opening of the Madere Children’s Advocacy Center Monday afternoon.
Feb. 8, 2003 Residents speak out on hurricane protection levee
About 30 St. Charles Parish residents gathered Tuesday night to offer input on keeping their homes high and dry for future generations. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers held a “scoping meeting” in the Hahnville High School cafeteria to get the public reaction to the proposed Donaldsonville to the Gulf Hurricane Protection Project.
Feb. 8, 2003 Application withdrawn for solid waste pick-up station
An application to rezone 29 acres of wetlands south of Hwy 90 in Luling and allow a pick-up station for municipal solid waste was withdrawn before a meeting of the St. Charles Planning and Zoning Commission Thursday night. The applicant, BFI Waste Services of Metairie, sent a fax to the P&Z Wednesday stating their desire to withdraw the application.

A measure that would allow a pick-up station for municipal solid waste in Luling will be considered at Thursday night’s meeting of the St. Charles Planning and Zoning Commission. The zoning change on 29 acres of land south of Hwy 90, around 1,000 feet from the Jefferson Parish line, is being requested by BFI Waste services of Metairie.
Feb. 1, 2003 Fire at Orion injures two, shuts down west side of plant
A fire at the Orion refinery in New Sarpy Wednesday injured two people and shut down half the plant, while sending a column of smoke into the air that blew over homes and businesses across the parish.
Feb. 1, 2003 School system holds bids for fuel
The St. Charles Parish School Board is currently accepting bids for unleaded fuel for use in district vehicles. The last time unleaded fuel was bid and approved by the school board was in February, 2000.
Feb. 1, 2003 Corps to hold public meeting regarding protection levee
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is planning a new series of five public meetings to discuss the construction of a hurricane protection levee in the region, beginning with one Tuesday night in Boutte.
